23:27 (IST)1 AUG 2024

Right then, that brings an end to our coverage of Day 6 of the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics, 2024. It all started with the race walking events, where after Akshdeep Singh pulled out of the race, the other two Indians - Vikash and Karamjeet were not able to finish anywhere in the top thirty of the race. Priyanka Goswami suffered a similar fate, failing to win a medal.

The best news of the day came from the shooting contingent, which gifted India its third bronze medal, with Swapnil Kusale making a stunning comeback in his Men's 3P final match to win bronze. However, that's about all the good news from the day for the Indian contingent.

The men's golfers in Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet weren't able to adjust to the conditions well, and find themselves out of the top twenty after Round 1. In hockey, after scoring an early goal, India allowed a comeback to happen for Belgium and went down 1-2 in the match.

Nikhat Zareen did not look at her best, losing to Wu Yu in the Round of 16, while Pravin Jadhav's archery stint at the Olympics ended with a first round elimination in the individual events. A lot of expectations rode on Sift Kaur Samra to perform, but she finished second to last in her event, while Anjum Moudgil failed to qualify for the final of the Women's 50m 3P too.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty put up a tough fight against their Malaysian opponents but perished, and the same fate was for PV Sindhu, who bowed out after a tough fight in the first game. A Prannoy vs Sen match unfolded but with the former looking weary, Sen qualified for the quarterfinals.

Overall, apart from the medal, it has been largely a disappointing day for India. They will hope to turn it around tomorrow, with plenty of shooting and athletics action coming our way. Join us back tomorrow at Sportskeeda for it. Until then, it's curtains! Good night!

BADMINTON - Women's Singles Round of 16

PV Sindhu loses the plot, bows out of Paris 2024 Olympics! For the first time, PV Sindhu will be returning empty-handed from an Olympic event and India's chances of getting a badminton medal rely solely on the shoulders of Lakshya Sen.

Her opponent today, He Bingjiao, was simply superior in her play, and took control of the match from a very early stage. Sindhu kept herself afloat in the first game but couldn't get close in the second. That will be the end of her campaign at Paris Olympics then. Click here to catch all the highlights from the match!

BADMINTON - Women's Singles Round of 16

Quite an interesting insight by P Kashyap on air - he reckons Sindhu is being forced to play reactive badminton and not proactive badminton.

It's being seen as well in her game here - where she's definitely not looking her best. A 15-8 lead for the Chinese shuttler in the second game and it's slowly inching towards a point of no return for Sindhu. Click here to follow the detailed coverage of the match!

A terrific rally to finish the game but it goes in favour of the Chinese He Bing Jiao! Sindhu fought hard and long to stay in it but as the rally progressed, He Jing brought out her best! With a powerful shot, she finishes the rally as Sindhu's return finds the net. A 0-1 lead for He Bing Jiao.

Both shuttlers change sides now and might take time to get used to the conditions, as the air conditioning at the venue makes playing at both ends very different.

Going into the mid-game break, there's a 11-8 lead for the Chinese shuttler. She's hardly brought out her smashes, but whenever she has, she's largely been successful with it.
