And with that, a mixed day comes to an end for India. But you've got to say the glass is half-full rather than half-empty - after all, they have been assured of a fourth medal and of a different color this time with Vinesh Phogat securing a spot in the 50kg wrestling final. That too having taken down the top-ranked Yui Susaki of Japan in the RO16 clash before impressive wins in her quarterfinal and semifinal bouts.
The day began in disappointing fashion though as the men's table-tennis team went down to China in the RO16, losing 3-0 as they bowed out. Vinesh's upset of Susaki brought life into India's campaign before golden boy Neeraj Chopra took centerstage, managing a throw of 89.43 metres on the first attempt to march into the men's javelin throw final. His fellow countryman Kishore Jena failed to qualify though.
Kiran Pahal didn't have a great time herself in the women's 400m repechage, finishing sixth and in the process, failing to qualify herself. With Vinesh soon winning her quarterfinal and semifinal bouts, it was euphoria for India.
That euphoria seemed poised to double with the men's hockey team giving it everything against Germany in their semifinal encounter. But alas, they went down fighting by a 2-3 margin and will now face Spain in the bronze medal clash tomorrow.

A rollercoaster day but there's a lot lined up tomorrow - the women's table-tennis team will take on Germany in a quarterfinal clash while Avinash Sable will also be in action in the 3000m steeplechase final.
