Right, MI are looking more formidable than ever and are rising in the points table too! PBKS need to look at their bowling, which has not fired in the past couple of games now. Looking at the larger picture though, both sides are caught in the middle muddle. Some scintillating hitting today and it has definitely left us entertained! Well, that's all that we have for you from this game! Join us back tomorrow for some exciting action as KKR lock horns with SRH. Until we meet again then, this is the duo of Pratyush Rohra and Maanas Upadhyay bidding you adieu! Good night!

23:36 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Ishan Kishan is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: The wicket was too good to bat on. I kept for 20 overs, so I knew how the wicket was playing. When you're chasing such a total, you need to show intent from the start and I was connecting well throughout. (Plans) They were swinging the ball pretty well and the keeper wasn't up to the wickets, so I knew I could step out. That was the clear plan and the message from the coach too. Stick to your plans and you'll get the best out of your game. (Fielders in the deep) I think it doesn't matter when you're chasing 215. You don't want to take the game to the last over. My game is to finish the game as soon as possible because you never know what happens. (Power game) Fitness is very important. There are so many senior players who have set examples for us. It's important is how you eat at home, so credit goes to my mom too.

23:33 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Rohit Sharma: (On whether the T20 format has changed since 2006) Definitely! When we started T20 format, 140, 150 was a winning score. We are in a different generation now. One extra batter makes a huge difference to the team. Not only for our team but for all teams. The average score in the IPL this year has been 180. If the teams are getting 200, it's pretty chasuble. He (SKY) has been doing it for a couple of years now. That's his strength - to play behind the wicket - and he utilised it well. Ishan and SKY played good innings for us. And good finish there by Tim and Tilak. We spoke before the season how we wanted to play our cricket. We wanted to go out there and play fearlessly and not think about the result. This time we said from the start that we want to go out there and express ourselves. We might lose a game but this is how we want to do. He (Ishan) is a little man but he has a lot of power. It's all about what he does off the field and it comes out on the field. Good to see him get those runs for us. It is something that we need to look at, certain options we need to take in the middle overs, we need to finish the overs. It's been three or four overs when we have conceded over 200. It's important to handle the pressure and execute what you feel is best when the opposition is playing with eight batters.

23:19 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians): Really happy that we ended up on the winning side but at the same time, I felt like I should have finished the game again. (Game plan during the chase) It was clear that we have to bat with positive intent and it was important to back Kishan from the other end because he was playing so well. So, those things came off and I enjoyed that. I always prepare for these situations. If I have to get 12 or 15 runs an over, I'm sitting outside and working out all these plans. So, that is done before I go in the middle. (Picking bowlers to target) I haven't thought about attacking bowlers unless it's the 17th-18th over. Ishan was batting really well from one end, so the idea was to support him from the other end. We reversed our roles tonight. I don't have the power game, I like to hit the gap and play the field. Really happy with the way things went and really happy that the partnership ended in a winning cause.

23:15 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Shikhar Dhawan: We started off quite well and thought it was a very good total. Unfortunately, we couldn't defend it. Rishi bowled really well at the start but other than that we gave quite a few deliveries outside off. Later on, Surya and Ishan took the game away. We could have been a bit more tight and proactive. (Picking Ellis over Rabada) We saw the pitch and thought the change of pace will work a lot. Nathan bowled really well, his changes worked well but the others didn't step up. (Spinners) I thought about it but because there was dew, so I backed my main bowlers to deliver. Unfortunately, they didn't today.

23:11 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Mumbai Indians 216/4 (18.5) beat Punjab Kings 214/3 (20)

Liam Livingstone 82*(42) | Jitesh Sharma 49*(27) | Piyush Chawla 2-29(4)
Ishan Kishan 75(41) | Suryakumar Yadav 66(31) | Nathan Ellis 2-34(4)

Mumbai Indians had failed to chase this very target at Wankhede against this very opposition, but tonight's a different night! They've come out all guns blazing and exacted revenge, winning this match and winning it clinically! Was always going to be a difficult ask, with 215 runs to get but the MI batters have put their hands up once again. They are starting to seem like one of the most dangerous batting sides in the tournament!

They didn't get off to the best of starts as skipper Rohit Sharma departed early. Green and Kishan put up a scratchy partnership for the third wicket which kept MI in the hunt. However, Mumbai Indians got ahead in the contest after the fall of Green's wicket. It was MI's ever-dependable duo in SKY and Kishan who stitched up a 116-run partnership for the third wicket and in quick time too! They were simply exceptional!

SKY smacked it all across the park as he raced to his 66 runs while Kishan kept chipping in with some lusty blows of his own. An unfortunate end to that partnership brought about the wicket of SKY and Kishan followed in the next over too! However, the finishers in Tilak and Tim David did not allow Punjab to sneak back into the contest, finishing the game off comprehensively with an over and a ball to spare!

The Punjab bowlers were clueless tonight, with Arshdeep conceding 66 runs off his 3.5 overs and Sam Curran going for 41 runs in three overs! The spinners could not find any purchase off this track and it just goes on to show how well Piyush Chawla bowled in the first innings. MI overtake PBKS in the points table and are certainly increasing the competition for the playoffs!

23:09 (IST)3 MAY 2023

18.5 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

TOWERING SIX TO PUT A STAMP OF AUTHORITY ON THIS CHASE! It was in the slot for Tilak and his eyes lit up as he cleared his front leg to clobber it down the ground to seal the deal. Mumbai Indians win by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare!

23:09 (IST)3 MAY 2023

MI just one big hit away now! Can Tilak finish it off in style?

23:08 (IST)3 MAY 2023

18.4 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

low full toss angled into the pads. Tilak whips it to deep backward square leg and hustles back for the second run. Can MI finish it off with an over to spare?

23:07 (IST)3 MAY 2023

18.3 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

follows the batter and nails the yorker like he usually does. Tilak jams it out into the leg side but David isn't interested in the tight single, no run

23:06 (IST)3 MAY 2023

18.2 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

sharp bouncer around the front shoulder. David controls his swat quite well for a single at deep square leg

23:06 (IST)3 MAY 2023

These are already Arshdeep Singh's most expensive figures in the IPL. All with five deliveries remaining!

23:05 (IST)3 MAY 2023

18.1 Arshdeep Singh to Tim Da

FOUR! It doesn't matter how they come at this stage. MI will take it with both hands though. Pitched up wide outside the off-stump, David slashes at it and slices a thick outside edge that loops over short third man to race away

23:05 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Quite a pretty decent over by Sam Curran as he concedes just 9 runs off it. However, with the game being in this position, it has perhaps not helped matters. The batters are pretty content with scoring one boundary and knocking the remaining deliveries around for singles. Can MI finish it off in this over itself?

23:04 (IST)3 MAY 2023

End of over 18 (9 runs), Mumbai Indians 203/4

Tim David 14(8)
Tilak Varma 18(7)
Sam Curran 41/0

23:04 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.6 Sam Curran to Tim Da

short of a length outside the off-stump. David tries to take on the pull which eventually comes off the inside splice, allowing a single down the ground

23:03 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.5 Sam Curran to Tilak Varma

low full toss as Tilak steps out on this attempted yorker. Worked to deep mid-wicket for another single

23:03 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.4 Sam Curran to Tim Da

digs it in short with the skiddy bouncer. David swats it to deep mid-wicket for a single

23:02 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.3 Sam Curran to Tilak Varma

slower one at the hard length on the fourth stump. Tilak chops it to deep point for one

23:01 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.2 Sam Curran to Tim Da

CHANCE! Pitched up on the off-stump line, holding in the surface a bit. David chips it down the ground and Curran did well to stick out a hand, parrying it into the off-side to allow a single. Harsh to call that a drop

23:00 (IST)3 MAY 2023

17.1 Sam Curran to Tim Da

FOUR! DEFT! On the good length outside the off-stump and David backed away as to wind one up. Bluffs everyone by steering this past short third man to start the over with a boundary. Down to run a ball now

23:00 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Sam Curran (2-0-32-0) is back into the attack

22:59 (IST)3 MAY 2023

The over can be divided into two halves, the first three were ones which gave Punjab hope but the next three squashed them! The wicket of Kishan followed by two dots but Tilak decided to change the complexion of the over! Three hits off the next three to fetch some big runs and MI now need just another 21 runs in 3 overs!

22:58 (IST)3 MAY 2023

End of over 17 (16 runs), Mumbai Indians 194/4

Tilak Varma 16(5)
Tim David 7(4)
Arshdeep Singh 53/1

22:58 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.6 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

SIX! INTO THE CROWD! Attempted yorker into the pads but it ends up as a half-volley. Tilak cashes is, swinging for the fences to send the ball into the crowd behind the square leg boundary. Arshdeep goes for 53 off his 3 overs!

22:58 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Deep square leg, deep mid-wicket, long on, long off and sweeper cover are the five fielders on the fence.

22:58 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Oh that's some way to get off the mark! Last time these two faced off, Arshdeep had broken the middle stump while Tilak was batting. He will want to pay it back with interest today!

22:57 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.5 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

FOUR! What innovation, what courage. Expecting the yorker and he anticipates it quite beautifully. Shuffles across, getting underneath that to ramp it over short fine leg for a boundary

22:56 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.4 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

SIX! NAILS IT! A bit too predictable with the short delivery and Tilak was expecting it. Sits back in his crease and crunches his pull to clear the mid-wicket boundary. The pendulum swings again!

22:56 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.3 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

APPEALS! Nothing from the bowler though. Slower one angled in at a back of a length, deflects off Tilak's thigh pad as he missed his swivel pull, no run

22:55 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.2 Arshdeep Singh to Tilak Varma

at the back of a length outside the off-stump. Tilak hangs back to steer it to backward point, no run

22:54 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Tilak Varma, LHB, walks out to the middle

22:54 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Oh this game has one twist after another! One brings two for Punjab Kings and the slower one does the trick! It was the knuckle ball on that occasion and Kishan has played it straight into the hands of the fielder there! Kishan has to depart for a terrific knock and it is up to the MI finishers to do the job for them once again!

22:53 (IST)3 MAY 2023

16.1 Arshdeep Singh to Ishan Kishan

OUT! STRAIGHT TO FINE LEG! There's the importance of bowling to your field. Gutsy delivery nonetheless, a knuckle ball angled into the left-hander. Kishan tried to pull it over fine leg but only picked out Rishi Dhawan in the deep, who simply wasn't going to drop those. How the tables have turned again. What a game!
Ishan Kishan c Rishi Dhawan b Arshdeep Singh 75 (41b, 7x4, 4x6)

22:52 (IST)3 MAY 2023

They desperately needed a wicket and Nathan Ellis provided just that! Well, MI won't have to deal with the threat of Nathan Ellis anymore as he has completed his quota of four overs. Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh will have to bowl some outstanding deliveries to keep them in check. They both have been expensive today. Ishan Kishan continues to remain a big threat for them!
MI need 37 runs in 4 overs at 9.25 RPO

22:51 (IST)3 MAY 2023

End of over 16 (8 runs), Mumbai Indians 178/3

Tim David 7(4)
Ishan Kishan 75(40)
Nathan Ellis 34/2

22:51 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.6 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

FOUR! That's a gift to ruin what was looking like a good over. Slower one dug in and down the leg side. All David had to do was help it past short fine leg and he did that quite easily in the end

22:51 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.5 Nathan Ellis to Ishan Kishan

slower one on the good length outside off. Kishan taps it to backward point and pinches another single

22:50 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.4 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

on the good length around the off-stump. David pushes it down to long-on and takes the single on offer

22:50 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.3 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

slower one into the surface. David nudges it through mid-wicket and hares back for the second run quite comfortably in the end

22:49 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.2 Nathan Ellis to Tim Da

at the back of a length in the fourth stump line. David stays back to punch it to extra cover, no run

22:48 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Tim David, RHB, walks out to the middle

22:48 (IST)3 MAY 2023

It needed something special to get SKY out and Arshdeep has plucked it out of thin air! Nathan Ellis produces the breakthrough but MI won't mind that, he's done his job!

22:47 (IST)3 MAY 2023

15.1 Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yada

ARSHDEEP SNAFFLES ONE OUT OF THIN AIR! At the back of a length outside the off-stump and SKY wanted to guide his late cut over short third. He got a decent piece of it but not quite the elevation, which allowed Arshdeep to time his jump to perfection before pouching it after a bit of a juggle. Massive moment in the game that just opens the door for Punjab again.
Suryakumar Yadav c Arshdeep Singh b Nathan Ellis 66 (31b, 8x4, 2x6)

22:46 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Brutal! Absolute brutal stuff from Kishan in that over! 21 runs off that over and it has put MI in the ascendancy! Their onslaught continues and the pain to bring on Arshdeep to snare them a wicket does not work for PBKS.
MI need 45 runs from 5 overs at 9 RPO

22:45 (IST)3 MAY 2023

End of over 15 (21 runs), Mumbai Indians 170/2

Ishan Kishan 74(39)
Suryakumar Yadav 66(30)
Arshdeep Singh 37/0

22:45 (IST)3 MAY 2023

14.6 Arshdeep Singh to Ishan Kishan

FOUR! Arshdeep was the hero for PBKS when these two sides met earlier this year. He's gone for 37 in his two overs already today. Another one in the slot, another one spanked down the ground with authority to make it 21 run over!

22:45 (IST)3 MAY 2023

14.5 Arshdeep Singh to Ishan Kishan

FOUR! Misses the yorker this time and Kishan punishes him. Clears the front leg and drills it back over the bowler's head with a bit of disdain. Mumbai Indians are running away at this rate!

22:44 (IST)3 MAY 2023

Kishan emerges from the shadows and he sends that one packing! Whew! That's quite a shot!

22:44 (IST)3 MAY 2023

14.4 Arshdeep Singh to Ishan Kishan

SIX! SEE YA LATER! The margin for error as a bowler is so less. Arshdeep missed his yorker this time, ended up in a length ball in fact. Kishan picked the slower one and moussed t over mid-wicket for half-a-dozen
