A couple of tweets before we end this.

Lots of experts and football pundits unhappy with the penalty given by the referee as Gimenez was falling backwards and had no control of his arm. The general consensus is that Gimenez is falling backwards and his left hand has gone down to support the body. So VAR again in the eye of a storm and the Uruguayan supporters inside the stadium were incensed with that decision. Also it effectively ended the game as Uruguay were furiously threatening an equaliser.

Just a reminder: Uruguay need to win and better South Korea's result to get through in their last group game against Ghana.

FULL-TIME! Portugal 2 Uruguay 0. Bruno Fernandes was the star as Portugal qualify for the round of 16. His two goals helped his side win comfortably at the end. He even hit the post later on as he went for a hat-trick. Uruguay need to win their last game against Ghana to have any chance of qualifying.

Bruno Fernandes now HITS THE POST! So so close. Fernandes is found on the inside-left channel and he hammers a right-footed shot that hits the post with Rochet well beaten and squirms away. Fernandes shrieks in disappointment.

Sergio Rochet prevents Bruno Fernandes from scoring a hat-trick as he saves with his legs. Fernandes hit it sweetly on the volley but Rochet guarded his near-post well.

GOAL! Bruno Fernandes in the 92nd minute! Portugal 2 Uruguay 0. It's a calm and cool penalty from Fernandes as he sends the keeper the other way as he side-foots to the right of the goalie. But it was a harsh penalty given by the referee after VAR intervened. Gimenez was going down and it wasn't a deliberate handball. Pretty sure this will cause some controversy as the day goes on.

It's a PENALTY TO PORTUGAL! The referee has a look at the TV monitor and gives it to Portugal. Uruguay are incensed and protest the referee's decision but all to no avail.

VAR asks the referee to have a look for a possible handball from Jose Maria Gimenez as he slides in and as he falls his hand touches the shot after he is nutmegged by Bruno Fernandes.

Triple change for Portugal: Felix, Ronaldo and Carvalho off, Nunes, Palhinha, and Ramos on.

De Arrascaeta is in and has options to his left but with Diogo Costa advancing he dinks it straight at him and the chance goes. Suarez was asking for it at the far-post.

Uruguay are much more attacking now. They get a free-kick on the left and the ball finds Luis Suarez who hits the sidenetting from very close range.

Maxi Gomez HITS THE POST! The substitute almost levelled it for Uruguay. With no backlift he sweeps it to the far-post and it curls superbly but the post saves Portugal with Diogo Costa beaten.

Two changes for Uruguay: Gomez and Suarez for Cavani and Nunez.

Uruguay make a double change: De Arrascaeta and Pellistri for Vecino and Godin.

GOAL! Bruno Fernandes in the 54th minute! Portugal 1 Uruguay 0. Ronaldo is claiming the goal but it is given to Fernandes. Lovely ball from Fernandes and Ronaldo is onside as the right-back does not pull ahead, Ronaldo leaps and does his best to get his head on that, but just misses and it curls in beating the goalkeeper.

First time that Uruguay are in trouble as Bernardo Silva gets away from midfield and feeds Felix on the left, he takes the shot on but hits into the sidenetting with the goalkeeper covering his near-post.

Ruben Neves takes a heavy knock om the back of the ankle and looks to be in trouble but is OK to continue.

Second half starts.

HALF-TIME! Portugal 0 v Uruguay 0. A dull half apart from a few moments of quality. Bentancur had the game's best chance but Costa saved well. The game is crying for a bit of quality in the final third as both sides defend well.

YELLOW CARD to Uruguay's Mathias Olivera who stupidly gets in the way of a free-kick being taken quickly and gets booked. Such a poor way to get a card.

A problem for Nuno Mendes from Portugal and he is down. Raphael Guerreiro is preparing to come on if there's an issue. Mendes is emotional as he walks away. And Mendes walks straight down the tunnel. That's his game done.

YELLOW CARD to Portugal's Ruben Neves for cynically pulling down Varela who got past him on the inside-right.

Uruguay coming into the game a bit now.

And again Bentancur drives forward but stabs this wide after it is cut back to him from the left.

What a driving run that is from Rodrigo Bentancur from midfield and he dribbles past the two centre-halves but Diogo Costa comes out and makes himself big to prevent a sure goal. Actually the ball went through the legs of Costa but he got enough of his body behind that to save. Great chance that.

It's all Portugal at the moment but Uruguay are really solid at the back and even Cavani and Nunez are tracking back to help.

But his effort hits the wall and goes away for a corner.

Joao Felix shoots but a defender gets in the way and it's deflected away for a corner. Then Portugal win a free-kick on the left-hand side. CR7 is standing over it.

A corner is worked short and from the delivery, Jose Maria Gimenez gets up high and heads but it sails over the crossbar.

YELLOW CARD to Rodrigo Bentancur for leaving a foot on Ruben Dias.

Both sides have had a shot each but both high over the crossbar. Pretty zippy start to the game this.

Both sides have made three changes each. For Portugal - Nuno Mendes, Pepe and William Carvalho come in for Otavio, Raphael Guerreiro and Danilo Pereira, who fractured his ribs in training this week.
