A comprehensive win for He Bing Jiao who was too smart and accurate for PV Sindhu on the night. It was never going to be easy for the Indian going up against a familiar foe who's among the best in world badminton right now, and she showed her class throughout, controlling the pace and tempo of nearly every rally.
Sindhu never got comfortable at any point in the match, and He Bing Jiao did everything to restrict Sindhu's usage of her power game, with her movement across the court, direction of smashes, and variety of shots too good for Sindhu.
And unfortunately, that's the end of the road for PV Sindhu at the Paris 2024 Olympics. After winning a silver medal in 2016 in Rio and a bronze medal at Tokyo, her third Olympic campaign sadly comes to a premature end.
Ohh, an error in judgment from Sindhu allows He Bing Jiao to get to match point, 7 of them in fact.
Sindhu refuses to give up with a well-placed smash down the line, but she hasn't been able to string too many of those moments together, and the end looks inevitable.

Ohh well done that from PV Sindhu as she delivers a sharp backhand return close to the net. However, largely, Sindhu has been a passenger in this match, playing to the tempo that He Bing Jiao has been setting.

Ohh, that's too good. He Bing Jiao demoralizes Sindhu with two unbelievable returns from sure-shot winners, and forces the error and a false shot from Sindhu, taking a 15-8 lead now.
Ohh, stunning winner from He Bing Jiao. She's using Sindhu's power against her, redirecting her shots to make Sindhu move that extra bit across the court, and on this occasion, she plays a wonderful forehand smash from a very acute angle, leaving Sindhu rooted to the spot.
Sindhu finally gets a point back, with a marginal IN call, but she still has a lot to do here.
Ohh, Sindhu put on the backfoot once again as He Bing Jiao delivers two smashes back-to-back, and Sindhu can do nothing about that, with the placement and accuracy too good for her.
He Bing Jiao forces another error out of Sindhu, and takes a 11-5 lead going into the interval. Time is running out for Sindhu, and she needs to really up her game to stay alive here.

Finally, Sindhu pulls one back as He Bing Jiao makes an error, hitting one straight at the net.
Ohh, four points in a row for He Bing Jiao, and she's using the angles and her court movements to great effect here. Sindhu hasn't yet adjusted to the change in sides yet, and what looked like a routine smash for Sindhu goes long due to the drift.

Sindhu now playing with the drift here, and it'll be interesting to see how she handles the change. A uncharacteristic error from He Bing Jiao as she places her cross-court slice wide gives Sindhu an early 2-1 lead.
Ohh, a masterfully disguised shot from He Bing Jiao catches Sindhu out, and she challenges the decision, but it's Well IN. It's game point for He Bing Jiao, but Sindhu does get a break from that intense phase of play. Can she save this set?
No she can't, courtesy a phenomenal winner from He Bing Jiao after a wonderful rally. Both shuttlers showcase their full range of shots in that rally, but He Bing Jiao was controlling it all along, and she wins the first set with another well-placed smash to Sindhu's forehand.
What a set that was! Can Sindhu pull off a comeback in the 2nd?
Ohh great rally, and Sindhu makes a comeback! Great play near the net from Sindhu and it forces He Bing Jiao into an error, and the deficit is back to one for Sindhu.
Commentator's curse though, as He Bing Jiao makes a wonderful smash right at Sindhu, and that angle makes it near impossible to return. A 19-17 lead for the World No. 6.
Sindhu hits back again though, forcing He Bing Jiao into striking it wide with a smart return. And she's level once again! Great resilience from PV Sindhu, and she uses her height advantage to perfection, and her powerful smash across the line is too good for He Bing Jiao.
Ohh Sindhu can't afford that here. A couple of unforced net errors from Sindhu concedes a 2-point lead to He Bing Jiao, and she's making the Indian regret it. She converts it into a 3-point lead as she sets up the point with a powerful smash to Sindhu's backhand before finishing the move off with a well-placed push past Sindhu.
Sindhu does well to judge another long call to break He Bing's streak of points, but makes a similar error herself to concede another point. She's trailing 15-18 now.
Ohh, He Bing Jiao is directing her smashes really well at Sindhu's body, and as much as Sindhu tries to get into position, she's unable to fend that off. However, He Bing's error rate has risen in the 2nd half of this set, and the drift works against her, this time leading to a service error.
Ohh, there's that move once again. Uses her service return brilliantly to win another point with a neat drop shot. And she's level now! PV Sindhu holds her own in another long rally, but this time, it's He Bing Jiao forced into making an error, and Sindhu is back on level terms.
Sindhu seems to be getting the hang of that drift, and makes another good call to leave a long shot from He Bing Jiao. She follows it up with a fiery flat shot towards He Bing Jiao's backhand, and while it's initially called out, Sindhu is confident and challenges the call successfully.
Both shuttlers are still coming to terms with the drift here, and Sindhu after getting one wrong in the previous point, makes the right call and lets this one go. However, He Bing Jiao is moving really well across the court, and plays a delectable cross-court slice that leaves Sindhu with no chance.
Another long rally, and He Bing Jiao targets the vacant space toward Sindhu's backhand, but it is adjudged OUT. She challenges the decision, but it's unsuccessful.
Slowly, Sindhu has made a comeback here. She now trails by 2 points, but ohh make that 3. That's a great smash from He Bing Jiao, with a smash from a really tight angle that once again comes at an awkward height for Sindhu.
Well, when she's scoring those points, she's doing it really well is PV Sindhu. After a long rally, Sindhu plays a perfect cross-court smash before lobbing the return well past He Bing Jiao's reach with her backhand.
He Bing Jiao keeps delivering those returns at an awkward height for Sindhu, but on this occasion, the Indian's defense is up to it, and she cuts the deficit to three.
Ohh, what a point that is for Sindhu! Plays the drop shot right after He Bing Jiao's serve, catching her off-guard.
He Bing Jiao's deceptive shot close to the net has been adjudged to have been out, but that's well In, and she challenges the decision successfully. Sindhu trails 3-8 now.
He Bing Jiao is using the change of direction to great effect here, and Sindhu's defensive game has been found wanting early on. The pressure also gets to her in an extended rally as He Bing Jiao forces her to go for a non-existent kill shot that results in an error.
Sindhu finally breaks He Bing Jiao's point-scoring streak as the latter makes a late call to play at a long backhand, leading to an error.
