Tougher opponents await ahead as she will now take on China's He Bingjiao for a place in the quarterfinals. The two-time Olympic medallist has shown plenty of variety and intent in her game and will need to continue in the same vein as any mistakes from now on will mean an end to the dream of a hat-trick of Olympics medal.

Third time lucky as a down-the-line smash does it for Sindhu. Dominance as the Indian closes this one out in 34 minutes!

Kuuba saves a couple of Match Points with good short angles, but Sindhu has a whole host of opportunities to close this one out.

Eight straight points after the mid-game interval as Kuuba losing patience now. Despite fighting hard in the longer rallies, the chinks in the defensive laid bare now.

The run comes to an end with an error off Sindhu's racket, but she is only two points away from the Round of 16 now.

Sindhu sensing the need to push now. Goes into the ultra-aggressive mode three big smashes to race into the lead her. Time running out for her opponent.

What a rally! It has everything from big smashes to quick flat pushes and soft touch. It is Sindhu who finds the opening at the end and pounches for the kill.

The Indian leads by 5 points at the mid-game interval, but the challenge is much tougher as Kuuba is playing at a much higher level now.

The longest rally of the contest, and well, well, it is Kuuba who comes out on top. A beautiful angle and Sindhu has no response!

Kuuba is playing much better in this game. She uses tight shots at the net to draw short lifts from the Indian and is quick to pounce.

A very different look at the contest now and Sindhu also beginning to make a few errors now after watching her opponent rise to the occassion!

Sindhu goes back to her roots, attacking the shuttle like it's no one's business.

The steep smash is back and despite valiant defending from Kuuba, she is finding her way through.

A better start from the Estonian this time. As mentioned, she is beginning to read the Indian's game better.

Alert at the net to cut Sindhu's block short before outsmarting her opponent in the frontcourt again to open a slender lead.

And there you have it. One-way traffic in the opening game and Sindhu's variety proves too much for her opponent.

Kuuba looked prepared to handle her opponent's steep smashes, but the Indian bamboozled her with soft touches, deep clears and half smashes. A very strong first game from Sindhu tactically.

Sindhu is playing a very alert contest, watching every move of her opponent. She saw Kuuba move back into a defensive stance and dropped the shuttle short, before giving her opponent a runaround in the next point using a mix of deep pushes and soft touch.

Sindhu moves into a very comfortable nine-point lead at the mid-game interval. It was a venomous smash onto the Estonian's body that won her the final point as she is going from strength to strength.

The Indian will need to be wary as Kubba has shown sparks of brilliance, but just hasn't found the consistency to push her more fancied opponent. Can she change that?

A down-the-line smash and then an error from return on Sindhu helps Kuuba get on the scoreboard as she looks to make a contest out of this encounter.

The Indian has worked so much on her frontcourt game and her touch has improved by leaps and bound. A welcome addition to her explosive game.

Lovely reach from Sindhu as she reaches back good defensive lifts from her opponent before drawing an error.

Both players still trying to get the feel of the others' game here in the early stages, no flashy play just yet.
