RCB vs RR Live Score, IPL 2023: RCB stands tall to beat Rajasthan Royals by seven runs in Bengaluru

By Sportskeeda Desk | Last ModifiedApr 23, 2023 20:05 IST

RCB vs RR Live Score, IPL 2023, Match 32 Updates: Harshal Patel did what Harshal Patel does that is to defend runs in the tense situation. However, he had enough runs (20) in the final over while bowling to R Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel. He got hit for a couple of fours in the first three balls but the slower one did the trick as he claimed Ashwin's wicket and ensured Jurel was stranded at the non-striker's end for the full over. RCB won by seven runs while defending 189 with Harshal registering figures of 3 for 32 while David Willey and Mohammed Siraj picked one wicket apiece. Royals build the chase around the 98-run alliance between Devdutt Padikkal (52) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (47) but slumped following the two left-hander's dismissals in a space of two overs. So, much like the Lucknow Super Giants yesterday, the Rajasthan Royals had a chance to move to the top of the table this evening. The two sides have fluffed the opportunity, leaving the door open for the Chennai Super Kings to move to the top spot if they win their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders tonight. That game is already underway, of course, and you can switch tabs to catch all the live action from it. For now, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Pradeep Somasekhar. Buh bye!

20:03 (IST)23 APR 2023

Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: It's a position I don't mind batting in. I've done it for Australia, coming in to bat in the powerplay when the team is 2 down. With the preparation, you get the trust within the changing room. With the new ball, it skidded on quite nicely. We had to be proactive after losing two wickets and with the batting in the powerplay, it gave us momentum in the middle overs. Some chaos in the end there. I felt like it was my job to bat deeper. It was a match-up that suits me, but the execution didn't work. I thought we could have got to 205-210 if I had stuck around but we're happy to get the win.

20:01 (IST)23 APR 2023

Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore captain): To be honest, we had that discussion during the toss. The pitch looked dry and I mentioned that it will slow down with the guys having 10 overs under lights which is very difficult. The advantage was that the ball got scuffed up but with the impact player rule, the game is always on till the end. That's why we've had so many close games. The counter-attack from Maxi and Faf was even better than the Chennai game, it was a better surface that day. Maxi took the game away in just four overs. That was one of the best counter-attacking partnerships I have seen. We thought 160 might be enough but the way they batted helped us to 190 and put us in a commanding position. (Siraj) Phenomenal. We know he's got him (Buttler) in the past as well. He's bowling as well as I've ever seen him. Running in with the new ball he shows that intent, he has the Purple Cap, and that's for good reason. He's leading the attack and hopefully, Josh comes in next game. (Harshal) He always bowls the tough overs, it's not an easy job at Chinnaswamy. You know you're going to get hit here but he's a smart guy with enough experience. He's closed out games against DC and today as well. Whenever Hazlewood comes in, we might look like a different attack.

19:56 (IST)23 APR 2023

Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals captain): When you are playing on this ground, I think 10, 12, 13 per over is chaseable. It was just about momentum and hitting a few more sixes. Normally, Hettie does it but he had an off day. Today Jurel was hitting it well. It was just about one shot here and there. It depends on who is bowling and what the situation is and whether we are chasing or setting a target. (Sending Ashwin ahead of Holder) I think Ashwin with his experience and what he has done in the last couple of games has delivered in pressure moments. That's what the planning was. I think with the IPL games, the winning and losing is done with very small margins so we have to keep checking our routines and come back stronger next game.

19:31 (IST)23 APR 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 7 runs!

Glenn Maxwell - 77 (44) | Harshal Patel - 3/32
Yashasvi Jaiswal - 47 (37) | Trent Boult - 2/41

Another day, another final over thriller in the Indian Premier League. What is it this season that's bringing out such games that are going down to the wire? This one had it's ebbs and flows too, with the pendulum swinging one way and then the other. Eventually, it's the Royal Challengers Bangalore who come out on top and hold their nerve to get over the line.

It was the perfect start for them in the second innings with Siraj dismissing Buttler for a duck in the first over. That should have set the tone for them early on but that wasn't the case, really. Jaiswal and Padikkal both scored half-centuries in a healthy 98-run stand to make sure they build the innings in a solid manner. However, the never really managed to get out of third gear.

Padikkal was the more aggressive of the two and once he was dismissed, the tide began to turn. Jaiswal followed soon after and it was Samson's breezy cameo that made it seem like he would repeat his heroics from the last game along with Hetmyer, but that wasn't the case. Jurel breathed some life into this innings while the West Indian struggled to find his groove and was runout, making it seem like the job was done for RCB.

A certain Ravichandran Ashwin wasn't going to make it that simple though. Alongside Jurel, the veteran all-rounder played his part with a brisk cameo, finding a couple of boundaries with 16 needed off the final over. At the end of the day, it was Harshal Patel and his side that had the last laugh, holding his nerve to make sure RCB get the two points.

19:29 (IST)23 APR 2023

End of over 20 (12 runs), Rajasthan Royals 182/6

Dhruv Jurel 34(16)
Abdul Basith 1(1)
Harshal Patel 32/3

19:29 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.6 Harshal Patel to Dhruv Jurel

HARSHAL HOLDS ON TO HIS NERVE! Royal Challengers Bangalore pull off a win, brilliant from the stand-in captain Kohli again. Back of a length on the fifth stump, Jurel cuts it hard, straight to backward point but they get just a single.

19:29 (IST)23 APR 2023

The Chinnaswamy roars in delight! The umpire is having a word with Dinesh Karthik about his positioning. 9 off 1. Harshal has to make sure he doesn't overstep.

19:28 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.5 Harshal Patel to Abdul Basith

OH! Pace off, short on the fourth stump. Basith looks to heave too early and mistimes it to deep mid-wicket. Crowd erupts at Chinnaswamy!

19:28 (IST)23 APR 2023

Impact substitution. Abdul Basith, RHB, comes to the crease. He's in for Devdutt Padikkal.

19:27 (IST)23 APR 2023

Now, all Jurel can do is watch from the other end. A handy cameo from Ashwin but you've got to wonder, should Jurel have taken more of the strike? All in hindsight of course. 10 needed off 2 balls now.

19:26 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.4 Harshal Patel to Ravichandran Ashwin

OUT! HOLES OUT AT DEEP MID-WICKET! Harshal gets the slower one finally, length delivery on the stumps. Ashwin goes for the shot too early and miscued it down to deep mid-wicket. Suyash comes running and pouches a safe catch, it's a dot ball more importantly!

19:26 (IST)23 APR 2023

The practice pitches got the better of Siraj! Ashwin the magician. Ashwin the finisher? 10 in 3 now!

19:25 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.3 Harshal Patel to Ravichandran Ashwin

FOUR! Another great shot from Ashwin. Length delivery, tailed in on the middle and leg. Ashwin whips it away, through to long-leg and Siraj comes diving to stop it but can't as Royals pick up another boundary.

19:25 (IST)23 APR 2023

That was a runout chance. Had Willey collected the ball properly, Jurel would have been gone! 14 off 4 needed now.

19:25 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.2 Harshal Patel to Ravichandran Ashwin

OH! Nails the yorker this time, tails in on the stumps. Ashwin squeezes it into the on-side  as Harshal himself runs across, dives and fires the throw back to Willey at the bowler's end, he doesn't collect neatly and they finish the second.

19:24 (IST)23 APR 2023

Sweeper cover comes in, long-off moves back

19:24 (IST)23 APR 2023

It doesn't matter how they come at this stage. That's a crucial boundary that keeps RR in the game!

19:24 (IST)23 APR 2023

19.1 Harshal Patel to Ravichandran Ashwin

FOUR! Completely bamboozles Ashwin but yet gets a boundary. Change of pace, Ashwin through with the hot too early, takes the edge and over the keeper's head, down to third-man for a boundary.

19:23 (IST)23 APR 2023

Only four fielders outside the circle for RCB. Sweeper cover, long-on, deep mid-wicket and deep square leg

19:23 (IST)23 APR 2023

Harshal Patel [3.0-0-20-2] is back into the attack

19:22 (IST)23 APR 2023

This is a confusing one. Siraj's foot disturbed the stumps first but he had the ball in his hand when that happened. He's then lost control of the ball while trying dislodge the bails, like he should have in the first place. That's cost his side a run. So, it'll be 20 needed off the final over.

19:20 (IST)23 APR 2023

End of over 19 (13 runs), Rajasthan Royals 170/5

Dhruv Jurel 33(15)
Ravichandran Ashwin 2(2)
Mohammed Siraj 39/1

19:20 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.6 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

Ashwin might be short here. Back of a length on the off-stump, Jurel mistimes it down to long-on. Fielder comes charging it and fires the throw to Siraj who collects and whips the bails off. Umpire takes it upstairs, Ashwin is well short but umpire thinks the hand with which he disturbs the bails doesn't have the ball in it and confirms it's NOT OUT on the big screen!

19:20 (IST)23 APR 2023

Jurel silences the crowd with that maximum. Now then, does he look for the single to keep strike or looks for another boundary?

19:19 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.5 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

SIX! BANG! Sensational shot from Jurel and silences the crowd in Chinnaswamy. Length delivery on the middle and leg. Jurel walks across off-stump and flicks it over deep backward square-leg, went flat for a maximum.

19:19 (IST)23 APR 2023

Kohli rallying up the crowd now. Long-off is the only fielder outside the circle on the off-side.

19:19 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.4 Mohammed Siraj to Ravichandran Ashwin

short and well outside the off-stump. Ashwin clears his front foot to pull but no timing again, down to long-on for one more.

19:18 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.3 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

short on the middle and off. Jurel doesn't get the timing right, swipes it to deep backward square-leg for just one.

19:17 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.2 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

back of a length on the fourth stump. Jurel walks across to hoick but mistimed it past the square-leg, they hustle back for the brace, brilliant running!

19:17 (IST)23 APR 2023

18.1 Mohammed Siraj to Ravichandran Ashwin

OH! Short delivery and completely hurries Ashwin there, looks to pull but mistimed it into the on-side. They just get a single.

19:16 (IST)23 APR 2023

RCB are two overs behind the over rate.

19:16 (IST)23 APR 2023

That was sensational from Maxwell and good work from Kohli too, ensure he's providing enough backup. That wicket of Hetmyer will take some pressure of RCB but it's Jurel who is still doing most of the damage. This one's not over yet!

19:15 (IST)23 APR 2023

End of over 18 (12 runs), Rajasthan Royals 157/5

Dhruv Jurel 22(11)
Ravichandran Ashwin 0(0)
David Willey 26/2

19:15 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.6 David Willey to Dhruv Jurel

OH! Brilliant stuff from Maxwell, saves two for his side, top work. Too full on the stumps, Jurel smacked it straight down the ground but Maxwell comes in a flash from long-on and parries back to Kohli with a tag team work as they pick up a brace.

19:14 (IST)23 APR 2023

Ravichandran Ashwin, RHB, comes to the crease

19:14 (IST)23 APR 2023

Just one stump to aim at and Suyash hits the bullseye! Is that the game for the Royal Challengers Bangalore?

19:13 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.5 David Willey to Shimron Hetmyer

RUN-OUT! Suyash, you beauty! One stump to aim at and he hits the bulls-eye, huge wicket for Bangalore as Hetmyer departs. Back of a length delivery, smacked it straight to Suyash at extra-cover who does the rest!

Shimron Hetmyer run out (Suyash Prabhudessai) 3 (9b, 0x4, 0x6)

19:13 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.4 David Willey to Dhruv Jurel

OH! Too full and wide of off-stump. Jurel reaches to drill it away but hits the inside half of the bat, mistimes it down to long-off for one.

19:12 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.3 David Willey to Shimron Hetmyer

back of a length delivery, angled in on the middle and leg. Hetmyer gets inside the line to hoick but misses, thuds on the pad and they pick up a leg-bye.

19:11 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.2 David Willey to Dhruv Jurel

length delivery on the off-stump. Jurel on the up, whacked it down to long-on but doesn't carry as they get just a single.

19:09 (IST)23 APR 2023

Was that over head height? It might be. Jurel is on his toes when the ball breezes past him. The right call has been made. Umpire Gough spreads his wings.

19:08 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.2 David Willey to Dhruv Jurel

OH! Clever change of pace, short and well outside the off-stump. Jurel reaches to ramp it over but misses, through to the keeper. Jurel has challenged that, umpire confirms that it's over head height and it's called a wide!

19:07 (IST)23 APR 2023

17.1 David Willey to Dhruv Jurel

SIX! BAM! Terrific hit from Jurel that, what wrists that. Length delivery on the leg-stump, Jurel picks it up and flicks it over deep square-leg fence and into the stands for a maximum.

19:07 (IST)23 APR 2023

David Willey [3.0-0-15-1] is back into the attack

19:07 (IST)23 APR 2023

That's turned out to be an expensive over for Siraj. 15 coming off it, which is what the asking rate is right now. The surface has got slightly slower with the game progressing, as expected, and you wonder if RR have left themselves with too much to do at the backend of this chase.

19:06 (IST)23 APR 2023

End of over 17 (16 runs), Rajasthan Royals 145/4

Dhruv Jurel 12(7)
Shimron Hetmyer 3(7)
Mohammed Siraj 26/1

19:06 (IST)23 APR 2023

16.6 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

bangs in the short delivery, was a slower one. Jurel a touch too early into the pull shot, through square-leg for just one.

19:05 (IST)23 APR 2023

16.5 Mohammed Siraj to Dhruv Jurel

FOUR! Walks across off-stump to access on-side. Jurel looks to whack it but gets a tickle off the bat, races down to fine-leg and gets the much needed boundary.
