Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra fail to qualify for the finals.

And we have the final result. Anjum Moudgil has finished 18th with a total score of 584-26x. Sift Kaur Samra is 31st with a total score of 575-22x. Out of the 32 shooters, only the top 8 go through to the final round.

Both Indian shooters lacked the consistency that is needed at the Olympic level. While Sift Kaur Samra had a fantastic first series in the prone position round, she could not yield the same returns in other rounds. Though, she is only 22-years-old and was participating in her first Olympics. She would be expected to get better from here.

Moudgil, on the other hand, would be a bit more disappointed. She had finished 15th in the qualification round at Tokyo. Here, she ends up being 18th.

USA's Sagen Maddalena topped the charts in this round with China's China's Zhang Qiongyue a close second. Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh, who was at the apex position for a while, had an ordinary last round and slipped to 12th position, failing to qualify.

The 8th spot was grabbed by Denmark's Stephanie Grundsoee who finished with a total score of 589-26x - 5 points more than India's Moudgil. In shooting, a 5-point difference is a considerably large.

Sift Kaur Samra finishes with a total score of 575-22x.

After ten consecutive shots of 9, Samra finishes strong hitting four 10s, including three Xs. But the damage had been done already. She is currently ranked 31st out of 32 shooters. Her final score is 575-22x.

Samra is now ranked 31st. She has 7 shots remaining. Her current total score is 508-19x. Her last seven consecutive shots have fetched her 9s only.

Moudgil finishes with a total score of 584-26x. Chances of qualification look bleak.

Moudgil finishes with a total score of 584-26x. She is currently ranked 17th. As mentioned before, these rankings are based on average points per shot and hence, will keep on fluctuating. The final rankings will be based on the total score. However, Moudgil might need a miracle to qualify from here.

Moudgil ranked 18th, Samra 28th.

Moudgil currently has a total score of 565-25x with two shots remaining. She is currently ranked 18th. Samra has 12 shots remaining and is currently ranked 28th with a total score of 463-19x. Remember, top 8 go through to the medal round.

It is USA vs China for the top spot.

China's Zhang Qiongyue and USA's Sagen Maddalena go back and forth at the top of the ranking charts. Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh is currently third. Though, finishing first does not provide any tangible incentives, it is a battle for bragging rights. Remember, these rankings are based on average points per shot and hence, will keep on fluctuating. The final rankings will be based on the total score.

Samra continues to lack consistency.

Samra is struggling to score 10s consistently. She has now slipped to the 30th rank. Chances of qualification look minute now.

Meanwhile, Moudgil has followed up her 9 with two 10s and a 9 again. One of those 10s hit the innermost circle and took her count of Xs to 20. As I type this, she hits two more Xs. Then, a 9 and another bullseye. Moudgil's total score now reads 467-23x. Rank - 23rd.

Both the shooters are taking their time in steading themselves and getting the aim right. Moudgil has just fired a shot. It hit 9. Samra is yet to fire one.

Final 20 shots to be taken in the standing position.

The last two series of shots, i.e. 20 shots in total, will be fired in the standing position. Both Indian shooters will need punch above their weight to climb the chart and finish in the top 8. Remember, in case of a tied score, the shooter with more number of Xs will be ranked higher. An X denotes a shot that hit the inner most circle.

Can Samra and Moudgil qualify for the medal round?

Remember, top 8 shooters go through to the medal round. Eszter Meszaros of Hungary is currently at 8th spot with a score of 394-25x. Moudgil has slipped to the 22nd position and Samra to 28th. Moudgil has a score of 390-19x and Samra has 388-18x against her name.

Some shooters are yet to complete their prone positions shots. Hence, the rankings keep on fluctuating. Currently USA's Maddalena is at the apex spot with a total score of 398-4x. China's Zhang is second with 398-27x.

It seems like Samra has got herself into the grove now. In the first series of prone position shots, she managed nine 10s and one 9. In the next ten shots, she hit seven 10s and three 9s. Half of her prone position shots hit the innermost circle. She now has a total score of 388-18x and is ranked 25th.

Prone Position round begins

Prone position is the one in which a shooter lies on his stomach and fires the shots. It often causes your neck and lower back to strain. Though, for many shooters this round is often the highest scoring one.

Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh has overtaken China's Zhang Qiongyue. McIntosh has 199-15x, while Zhang has 199-9x. USA's Sagen Maddalena is third with a total score of 198-17x.

Anjum Moudgil finishes the kneeling position shots with a score of 196-8x. Meanwhile, Sift Kaur Samra has managed 193-8x. Moudgil is currently ranked 9th and Samra is 25th.

Moudgil starts strong

Anjum Moudgil has started strong. She hit a 9 with her first shit but has followed it up with 5 consecutive 10s and is currently placed 8th.

A quick reminder of the rules

A total of 60 shots, divided into 6 series of 10 each, will be fired by each shooter. 20 shots in the kneeling position, 20 shots in the prone position and 20 shots in standing position. Each shot is worth 10 points maximum. Hitting the innermost circle gives you one X in the score. In case of tied scores, the shooter with more number of X goes through. Top 8 qualify for the next round.

The event is about to begin

We are moments away from the commencement of the event. Anjum Moudgil is at firing point 41, while Sift Kaur Samra is at firing point 26. They will first take shots in the kneeling positions.

The event would take place outdoors. The temperature in Chateauroux is currently around 24°C and is expected to touch 31°C as the day progresses. This is hotter than usual by the European standards. Hence, adjusting to the weather would be a key for all 32 shooters who are going to be competing in this event.

Meanwhile, Sift Kaur Samra won a gold in this event last year at the Asian Games, where she also broke the world record for the finals by scoring a total of 469.6. Hence, there are high hopes from the 22-year old.

30-year old Anjum Moudgil has been shooting since she was in 7th standard. She started off with pistol, but soon switched to rifle. She won a silver medal at the ISSF World Cup final, Cairo 2022 as well as a silver at the ISSF World Cup, Baku the same year.
