After a first day of underwhelming returns, India's shooters have brought good news. Manu Bhaker has clinched a bronze medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol, making her the first women to bag a shooting medal for India at the quadrennial games. Meanwhile, Arjun Babuta and Ramita have made it to the medal round of the Men's and Women's 10m Air Rifle respectively.

Men's 10m Air Rifle Qualification

Arjun Babuta qualifies for the medal round. Sandeep Singh misses out. While, Manu Bhaker clinched Olympic glory, Arjun Babuta and Sandeep Singh were busy fighting out for a medals round qualification in the Men's 10m Air Rifle. Arjun Babuta was consistent, picking upwards of 10 points with every shot. He finished with a total of 630.1 points. Though, at the end, he had a bit of a scare as Germany's Maximilian Ulbrich and Italy's Edoardo Bonazzi came close to toppling him out of the top 8. Ultimately, both slipped and Babuta finished 7th in the charts.

On the other hand, Sandeep Singh started slow. Though, he made a comeback in the second half of the competition climbing the ladder rapidly, it was not enough to break into the top 8. He finished with a total of 629.3 points, ranked 12th. The medal round, which will feature Arjun Babuta of India will commence at 15:30 IST tomorrow.

Manu Bhaker- "I feel very proud that I could open the account for India! The entire team has worked really hard and we deserve a lot more medals in other disciplines! It's a bronze but it feels surreal. Hopefully it will be better next time. I read Gita a lot and I was telling myself to do my job and not focus on the outcome like Lord Krishna had said to Arjun! After Tokyo I was very disappointed but I came back stronger. Let the past remain in past. I worked hard and I knew that so many people had come from India to cheer for me and cheer for India. I'm incredibly grateful to be the medium of India's first medal. "

Abhinav Bindra clinched a Gold in Men's 10m Air Rifle, in Beijing 2008 and Gagan Narang clinched a Bronze in the same discipline in London 2012. Vijay Kumar on the other hand got a Silver in Men's 25m Rapid fire Pistol. If Bhaker can get to a podium finish here, she will become the first woman shooter from India to win an Olympic medal!
