Manu Bhaker qualifies for the final; Esha Singh misses out. Naruka's chances look bleak.

Manu Bhaker is on the verge of something special. Only three days ago, she became the first Indian woman to win two medals in the same Olympic year. Now, she has a shot at a third. India's newfound favourite put in an impressive performance in what has been touted as her "favourite" event. With a final score of 590-24x, she finished second in the qualifying round of the Women's 25m Pistol. Tomorrow, she would once again be aiming for the podium.

Other than that, India's return from shooting on Day 7 were lukewarm. In her first Olympics, teenager Esha Singh impressed in patches, but failed to secure a qualification into the final round. She finished 18th with a score of 581-17x in the same event as Bhaker. Meanwhile, on the first day of Men's Skeet Qualifications, Anantjeet Singh Naruka has finished 26th. The remaining two rounds of the qualification would be held tomorrow. However, Naruka's chances of finishing in the top 6 are fairly low.

Men's Skeet Qualifications - Day 1

Anantjeet Singh Naruka is set to finish the first day of qualifications ranked 26th among 30 shooters. While, some shooters are going through their final few shots in the third round, those who are ranked below Naruka cannot overtake him now. It has been an ordinary day for the Indian shooter. He started with a 23 in the first round, followed it up with a 22 in the second, and then a 23 again in the third round to bring his total to 68. The event will resume tomorrow exactly from where it ends today. Two more rounds will take place. Naruka, will not only have to hit all the targets, but also hope for shooters ranked above him to slip up in order to have a chance of finishing in the top 6. The chances are fairly bleak.

Men's Skeet Qualifications - Day 1

Anantjeet Singh Naruka scores 23 in the third round. Having scored 23 and 22 in the first two rounds, he currently has a total score of 68. Unfortunately, at this level it is not a pretty reading. The next two rounds will take place tomorrow. Meanwhile, the last two squads i.e. 12 shooters are still firing their shots. We will give you Naruka's ranking once they are done.

MANU BHAKER QUALIFIES FOR THE FINAL!!! Esha Singh misses out. Bhaker was indeed in the contention of finishing first. However, her second last and third last shots were 9s. She finishes 2nd with a total score of 590-24x. Meanwhile, Hungary's Veronika Major equals Qualification Olympic Record with a total score of 592-27x.
Esha Singh finishes 18th with a total score of 581-17x. Only the top 8 go through to the next round.

Bhaker has hit five more 10s. Four of which count as X. Major now has. a score of 542-24x, while Bhaker has 542-23x.

It is a tight contest for the apex spot between Major and Bhaker. Though, finishing first in the qualification round doesn't give you any tangible benefits. However, it gives you bragging rights.

Bhaker follows it up with five consecutive 10s. Total Score - 492-19x; Current Rank - 2. This means that in the first 20 shots, only one missed out on being a 10. Meanwhile, Hungary's Veronika major continues to lead with a score of 492-23x. Last 10 shots coming up. Manu Bhaker has a realistic chance of finishing first in the qualification round.

Did we jinx it? One of her shots in the next series hits 8. Though, she hits four 10s around that 8, bringing her total score to 442-15x. Manu Bhaker continues to hold on to the second spot.

The second relay of shooters are in their lanes. Remember, 30 shots have to be fired in total in the rapid round. Manu Bhaker is currently ranked third. Top 8 qualify for the finals.

In the official scorebook, the 30 shots are divided into three series of 10 shots each. They are indeed going to come at a rapid pace. So stay with us. This could be over before you think.

Men's Skeet Qualifications - Day 1

At the end of round 2, four shooters have a perfect score of 50. Remember, in each round, shooters have to fire 25 shots. A score of 50 from 2 rounds mean that all the shots in the first two rounds hit the target. India's Anantjeet Singh Naruka has a total score of 45. He is currently ranked 25th among 30 shooters.

The four shooters with the perfect score are Norway's Erik Watndal, Peru's Nicolas Perpacheco Espinosa, USA's Vincent Hancock and Italy's Tammaro Cassandro.

In the first relay, Vietnam's Thu Vinh Trinh has finished with the highest score of 587-25x. In the overall rankings, which are currently based on average points per shot, she is placed 4th. The top three spots are occupied by shooters of the second relay. Manu Bhaker is 3rd with a score of 294-7x from the precision round. Meanwhile, Hungary's Veronika Major is first with 294-15x, followed by France's Camille Jedrzejewski in the second place with a score of 294-13x.

The second relay shooters will be firing their shots in about 40 minutes from now. For Trinh to climb up, she would need the three shooters above her to slip up in the rapid round. Similarly, Esha Singh would have to hope for a miraculous scenario where all shooters of the second relay end up finishing with a total less than her 581-17x.

Esha Singh has finished with a total score of 581-17x. Eight shooters of the first relay are ranked above her. Things have to go drastically wrong for the shooters in the second relay for Esha Singh to finish in the top 8. Right now, the chances look bleak. She is currently ranked 15th.

Her inconsistent returns in the first series of the precision round have come back to haunt her. She had a terrific third series and decent returns in the rapid round too. Though, in this sport of fine margins, small mistakes can add up and hurt you.

Esha Singh notches up a score of 97 in the last series. She hit eight 10s, one 9 and an 8 as well. She finishes with a total score of 581-17x. She is currently ranked 15th.

The rapid fire round begins now. Once again, the shooters would go up in two batches. Esha Singh is in the first relay. Three series of 10 shots each would be fired. Each series has to be fired within a few seconds. So, stay on this window. It might be over sooner than you think.

Men's Skeet Qualifications - Day 1

Anantjeet Singh Naruka has managed to hit 22 out of the 25 targets in the second round. It hasn't been a great day for the Indian shooter. With a total of 45 from two rounds, he is currently ranked 23rd.

Women's 25m Pistol Qualifications

The precision round is done. The rapid round begins in about 45 minutes from now.

According to the current standings, Hungary's Veronika Major leads the chart with a total score of 294-15x. France's Camille Jedrzejewski is second with 294-13x.

As far as Indian shooters are concerned, this is what their returns look like:-
Manu Bhaker: Total Score - 294-7x; Rank - 3rd out of 40.
Esha Singh: Total Score - 291-6x; Rank - 10th out of 40.

Silver medalist at the mixed team event in the 10m Air Pistol, Türkiye's Sevval Ilayda Tarhan is ranked 26th with 287-9x. Pakistan's Kishmala Talat is ranked 18th with a total score of 289-9x.

Remember, the top 8 shooters qualify for the finals. The final standings would be determined when the rapid round is done.

Manu Bhaker in the top 3! Bhaker scores 99 in the third series. She hit nine consecutive 10s followed by a 9. Her total score is 294-7x. Current Rank - 3.

Meanwhile, with a total of 291-6x, Esha Singh is still placed 10th.

The second round has now begun. As of now Anantjeet Singh Naruka has fired 4 shots, 3 of which have hit the target.

At the apex spot is France's Camille Jedrzejewski. She has the same number of points as Bhaker but has hit the innermost circle more often. Her total score is 245-11x.

Meanwhile, Türkiye's Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, who won the silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event (where Bhaker and Sarabjot won bronze) is currently ranked 24th with a total score of 287-9x. She was a part of the first relay.

Bhaker climbs up to the 6th spot. Manu Bhaker begins the second series with three consecutive 10s. She then hits a 9 and follows it up with another 10. Total Score - 146-4x. Current Rank - 6th.

Esha Singh, who featured in the first relay and finished with a total score of 291-6x from her 30 shots, is currently ranked 10th.

Men's Skeet Qualifications - Day 1

All 30 shooters have completed the first round. 11 shooters managed to hit 25 out of 25. 10 of them hit 24. Four of them including India's Anantjeet Singh Naruka hit 23. Another four hit 22, meanwhile Kazakhstan's Eduard Yechshenko hit 21. Naruka is currently ranked 24th

Manu comes back STRONG!! She hits five consecutive 10s, including two shots at the innermost circle. Her total score after the first series is 97-2x and she is currently ranked 12th. Esha Singh has slipped to 6th.

Meanwhile in skeet, the last squad is firing their shots. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, who scored 23/25 in the first round has now slipped to 24th position in the real time rankings. Though, there is still a long way to go.

Meanwhile in Skeet, Anantjeet Singh Naruka has hit 23 targets in his 25 shots in round 1 . He is currently ranked 16th in 30 shooters. 6 shooters hit 25/25. Remember, only the top 6 qualify for the finals. Two squads i.e. 12 shooters are yet to fire their shots.

With the first batch of 20 shooters done, we are all set to move on to the next 20 shooters. This would include Manu Bhaker. The shooter are going through their preparation routine and would soon be firing their shots.

Singapore's Xiu Hong Teh continues to lead the chart with a total score of 293-8x. Hungary's Sara Rahel Fabian is second with 291-7x. Esha Singh is third with 291-6x. Remember, Singh has the same number of points but she is third because Fabian has more Xs in her score. You get an X in your score when you hit the innermost circle on the target.

Men's Skeet Day 1

After a disappointing campaign in trap shooting, it is time for the other shotgun event of the Paris Olympics, namely Skeet. India will have representation in the form of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka in the men's event, who will be beginning his campaign today.

Similar to the trap event, there are five rounds, out of which three are to be held today. The top six shooters after the completed five rounds move on to the final. The difference from trap, however, is that instead of one clay target, they have to aim at two clay targets at a time, which cross each other in the air, getting faster as the round progresses.
