SRH vs DC Live Score, IPL 2023: Capitals stun Sunrisers in a seven-run victory

By Sportskeeda Desk | Last ModifiedApr 24, 2023 23:41 IST

SRH vs DC Live Score, IPL 2023, Match 34 Updates: Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mukesh Kumar was just outstanding in his role of an impact player in the second innings. He lived up to the expextations of the team management as he defended 13 runs in the last over, conceding just five runs from it and bowled yorkers to deny Washington Sundar and Marco Jansen any room to unleash the big hits. SRH slipped from 69/1 to 85/5 in the middle overs and they found it difficult to inspire a comeback despite the cameos by Heinrich Klaasen (31 in 19 balls) and Washington Sundar (24 in 15 balls). Anrich Nortje (2/33) and Axar Patel (2/21) were successful in building the pressure by not just picking crucial wickets but also contained the runs. Another day, another final over thriller in the Indian Premier League. This season is producing one epic encounter after another, and the points table is an indication of the same. There's everything to play for with the games coming in thick and fast throughout. After Warner got the win over his former franchise, Hardik Pandya will be aiming to do the same tomorrow as his Gujarat Titans come up against the Mumbai Indians. Make sure you join us for the coverage of that game. For now, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner Soorya Sesha. Goodnight!

23:40 (IST)24 APR 2023

So, the Delhi Capitals manage to make it back-to-back wins and kickstart their campaign. With this win, they're still in last place but more level on points with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders on the points table that's starting to take shape, and it looks rather cramped up at the moment. On the other hand, despite plenty of positives tonight, the hosts will be scratching their heads as to how they let this game slip from their grasp.

23:39 (IST)24 APR 2023

Axar Patel is the Player of the Match for his all-round display. Here's what he has to say: (What did he enjoy more - his batting or his bowling returns?) 2/24 since I scored 34 in 34 so the two wickets were more important. (On the collapse before he walked out) I had no idea since I had ordered a coffee. I left the glass just like that since I got to know that the team lost three wickets in an over. It was nice to get that partnership since we knew if we score some runs it'll give us a chance. It's still there with the packing (laughs when asked about the coffee). It was a little slow and the ball was stopping. Kuldeep and I bowled like this as a partnership in Delhi as well. I had fun. (The wicket of Agarwal or Markram - which did he enjoy more?) I keep getting batters out bowled but the one I bowled slow to get Mayank out was good.

23:38 (IST)24 APR 2023

David Warner (Delhi Capitals captain): It's an amazing crowd, they always come out and support the Sunrisers team. I haven't been here for a while but thank you all for your support, thanks for hanging around. (Tense finish) Thankfully my hair can only get white from here, can't get grey. But this is why we play this game. Mukesh there under pressure was outstanding there so well done to him and the two spinners. I've found that these kind of experienced bowlers are never going to let you down so I thought if I rotate them (the spinners) around it'll work. (On Ishant Sharma) From Day 1 he kept saying 'I'm ready, I'm ready'. Unfortunately he was sick two games before but credit to him. To get back into the IPL and play like that is incredible. To win tonight, hopefully we can make it three in a row and obviously we've got back-to-back games against the Sunrisers so we have to start again. (Does Ponting have fingernails left?) I don't think he was born with fingernails (laughs). Thank you to the crowd again, thank you so much.

23:24 (IST)24 APR 2023

strong>Anrich Nortje: Obviously happy to get the win. Not the ideal performance with a few runs short but the bowlers did well. The spinners were great in the middle and even the pacers did the job. (Message at the break) They were saying there's some inconsistency on the good lengths. So that was the message. (Plans at the death) Just try to keep it as simple as possible. I thought I was a little off tonight but thankfully got away with it. (Against Klaasen)I'm not going to lie

the plan wasn't to ball half-volleys but you get a sense of where the batter wants to hit. (Mukesh) He was very clear with the plans and he focused. He took his time and executed it well, that was really inspiring.

23:21 (IST)24 APR 2023

strong>Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Hyderabad captain): We weren't good with the bat again

not enough intent. We'll have to go back and see how we can chase better, and be more free as a unit, and hopefully, that will help us. It's difficult (the result). We want to play a brand of cricket and you can have all that. But ultimately, the guys need to buy into it. We want to play a certain brand of cricket but unfortunately lacked the intent. We've got good players and unfortunately haven't managed to get over the line. (Leading players out of this rut) It's something I enjoy doing but the guys also need to work out what works for them. (Bowlers) Proud of them. They read the conditions well and did a brilliant job tonight. Small bits of positive from there, I suppose.

23:17 (IST)24 APR 2023

Match Summary: Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 runs.

Manish Pandey 34 (27) | Axar Patel 2/21 (4)
Mayank Agarwal 49 (39) | Washington Sundar 3/28 (4)

A bowling display that the Delhi Capitals will be chuffed to bits with. They did not have a par total to play with on David Warner's return to Hyderabad but he was determined to make the most of it. His bowlers responded and delivered, as the roar and leap from Warner tells you what this means to him.

With a tough chance going down in the very first over, Mayank Agarwal seemed determined to make the Capitals pay. Returning to the top of the order, he went about timing the ball beautifully to pick the gap and dispatch the scoring opportunities, even as Harry Brook struggled like a cat on a hot tin roof. The Englishman failed to come to terms with the lack of pace on the pitch and perished to a poorly attempted lap shot with Anrich Nortje castling him. It just got worse though with Rahul Tripathi struggling even more as the Sunrisers saw the asking rate creep up steadily.

Agarwal continued to time the ball well even though he also slowed down once the spinners came on. With the asking rate mounting post the halfway mark, he decided to chance his arm and perished in the process. A collapse was on with Warner regularly rotating his bowlers around and reaping rewards to perfection. Tripathi was put out of his misery while Abhishek Sharma chipped one back in tame fashion. When Aiden Markram was castled by Axar Patel, the Sunrisers were staring down the barrel with a string of nagging overs suddenly leaving them with 51 to get off the last four overs.

It was a tall ask with Nortje to bowl two overs at the death. Heinrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar kept the flame shining bright though as they went about picking their spot and using the pace on offer to the fullest. While Klaasen couldn't get the job done, Sundar was still batting well and with 13 needed off the last over, young Mukesh Kumar had a tough task on hand.

But in what was a nerveless display of death bowling, he executed his yorkers to perfection while bowling to his field, ensuring that neither Sundar nor Marco Jansen could put them away to the fence. The Sunrisers paid for their stagnation in the powerplay and middle-overs and eventually, succumbed to their third loss at home in four games this season. Stick around for the presentation...

23:16 (IST)24 APR 2023

Mukesh Kumar, you are a hero! Fans of the Delhi Capitals will remember this for a long, long time. That is just top-class execution under pressure to deny the Sunrisers Hyderabad and it's the lowest score successfully defended by the Delhi Capitals in IPL history! Wow!

23:15 (IST)24 APR 2023

End of over 20 (5 runs), Sunrisers Hyderabad 137/6

Marco Jansen 2(3)
Washington Sundar 24(15)
Mukesh Kumar 27/0

23:15 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.6 Mukesh Kumar to Marco Jansen

TAKE A BOW, MUKESH KUMAR! He sinks to his knees and is swarmed by his teammates as they get over the line for what looked like an improbable victory for most of that game. Ends with the perfect yorker at the off-stump, Jansen jams it out towards mid-off. Delhi Capitals hold their nerve for a crucial 7-run win in a low-scoring thriller!

23:15 (IST)24 APR 2023

A legal delivery will do the job here for Mukesh. 8 needed off the last ball!

23:15 (IST)24 APR 2023

JUST A SINGLE! How and why didn't they even try running a second?

23:14 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.5 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

keeps it full and straight once more. Sundar sits deep in his crease and pumps it to deep mid-wicket where it's only a single. DC are celebrating already. This should be job done.

23:13 (IST)24 APR 2023

9 needed off 2...

23:13 (IST)24 APR 2023

This is tremendous nerve under pressure from Mukesh Kumar. SRH need nothing short of two boundaries now to make it a Super Over at the very least.

23:13 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.4 Mukesh Kumar to Marco Jansen

can't quite nail the yorker but it's a low full toss on the pads. It's good enough since Jansen can't work it away, flicking it to deep mid-wicket for a single

23:13 (IST)24 APR 2023

Long on and mid-wicket are back. Fine leg and third man are up. 10 needed off 3...

23:12 (IST)24 APR 2023

Some grins in the Delhi Capitals dugout. They seem rather relaxed. SRH are the ones who need to force something now. This one just has to travel.

23:12 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.3 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

keeps it full and straight. Sundar clears his front leg to drill this to long-on for a single. 10 off 3...

23:11 (IST)24 APR 2023

Magnificent yorker from Mukesh! Simply magnificent! 11 needed off 4...

23:11 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.2 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

top class! Nails the wide yorker outside the off-stump. Sundar couldn't squeeze that one out, dot ball

23:11 (IST)24 APR 2023

Indeed, just four fielders are outside the inner circle. Deep mid-wicket, long on and deep fine leg in place apart from a sweeper cover.

23:10 (IST)24 APR 2023

19.1 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

pitches it up wide outside the off-stump. Sundar sits deep in his crease to slice his drive through the covers for a brace in the deep

23:10 (IST)24 APR 2023

Might be an over-rate penalty as well with Ian Bishop pointing it out on air!

23:09 (IST)24 APR 2023

The hit chartbuster 'Vaathi Coming' is being played by the DJ. Can Sundar be the 'Vaathi' (Master) for SRH?

23:08 (IST)24 APR 2023

Sundar is happy with the single and keeps strike for the final over. Goodness me, another thriller! Another last over thriller to be more specific. Oh this tournament just keeps giving, doesn't it? SRH have picked up momentum in these last three overs but they have to complete the job now. It's all a battle of nerves and execution. Sunrisers Hyderabad require 13 runs to win off the final over!

23:08 (IST)24 APR 2023

End of over 19 (10 runs), Sunrisers Hyderabad 132/6

Washington Sundar 20(11)
Marco Jansen 1(1)
Anrich Nortje 33/2

23:08 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.6 Anrich Nortje to Washington Sundar

finds the yorker on the leg-stump line. Sundar clips it through mid-wicket and keeps strike for the final over with 13 needed off it

23:08 (IST)24 APR 2023

Right into the gap! Oh how badly SRH needed that and on a smaller ground, that would have gone the full distance. Can Sundar pick out the fence again?

23:07 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.5 Anrich Nortje to Washington Sundar

FOUR! Washington is piling on the misery on DC! Nortje missed his yorker ever so slightly, which allowed Sundar to break free. He clears his front leg and heaves it in the gap at cow corner to split the gap and find the boundary on the bounce. Replays confirm it landed just inside the cushions.

23:06 (IST)24 APR 2023

18 needed off 8...

23:06 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.4 Anrich Nortje to Marco Jansen

a pinpoint yorker on the middle stump line. Jansen shovels it out through mid-wicket to get off the mark

23:06 (IST)24 APR 2023

Marco Jansen, RHB, comes to the crease

23:05 (IST)24 APR 2023

Klaasen cannot believe it! He doesn't want to go but alas, he cannot undo the damage there. He has played a fine hand but alas, he cannot see his team past the finish line.

23:05 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.3 Anrich Nortje to Heinrich Klaasen

PICKS OUT THE FIELDER THIS TIME! Full and outside the off-stump once more. This time Klaasen gets underneath it and takes the aerial route to launch it towards sweeper cover. He's only picked out Aman in the deep, who makes no mistake on the low catch. Is that the game for DC?

Heinrich Klaasen c Aman Hakim Khan b Anrich Nortje 31 (19b, 3x4, 1x6)

23:04 (IST)24 APR 2023

If you're Mitchell Marsh, you just don't want the ball to follow you today. Two tough catches - this one even tougher - but alas, it doesn't stick!

23:04 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.2 Anrich Nortje to Heinrich Klaasen

LANDS SAFELY! Pitched up outside the off-stump and Klaasen throws his bat at it. Sliced high into the night sky in between long-off and extra cover. It should have been Warner's catch coming in from long-off but Marsh called for it. Never looked settled underneath it though, and didn't hold on in the end. That was a toughie!

23:03 (IST)24 APR 2023

Spectacular running between the wickets! Sundar was caught napping against MI as he fell short but this time, he puts in a full stretch to make it.

23:03 (IST)24 APR 2023

18.1 Anrich Nortje to Heinrich Klaasen

excellent running! Nails the yorker and Klaasen manages to jam it out towards long-on. The ball barely gets past the 30 meter circle, and the batters did well to hustle back for the second run

23:03 (IST)24 APR 2023

15 runs off the over! Momentum swinging the way of SRH and that's what you'd probably call the 'falling lap' from Sundar. Mukesh has just got his execution awfully wrong that over. He just didn't bowl to his field and he certainly didn't get his yorker right here. This penultimate over is going to be massive alright. Sunrisers Hyderabad require 23 runs off 2 overs at 11.50 RPO.

23:01 (IST)24 APR 2023

End of over 18 (15 runs), Sunrisers Hyderabad 122/5

Washington Sundar 15(9)
Heinrich Klaasen 27(16)
Mukesh Kumar 22/0

23:01 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.6 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

FOUR! Everything he touches tonight turns to gold! It's his day alright! Full on the middle stump line and Sundar shuffles a long way across before managing to get enough bat on his scoop to find the ropes

23:01 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.5 Mukesh Kumar to Heinrich Klaasen

finds the yorker on the leg-stump line. Watchfully jammed out towards long-on to take the single on offer

23:01 (IST)24 APR 2023

The crowd is roaring! Klaasen is playing a gem of a knock here but with no backward point in the deep, you simply cannot dish out width of this kind.

23:00 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.4 Mukesh Kumar to Heinrich Klaasen

FOUR! The crowd have found their voices again! On the good length outside the off-stump and Klaasen throws his hands at it, slicing it over backward point to beat the fielder in the deep. He's got to be the man to take them over the line.

23:00 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.3 Mukesh Kumar to Washington Sundar

into the block hole in the channel outside off. Sundar squeezes it out to long-off to bring Klaasen back on strike

22:59 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.2 Mukesh Kumar to Heinrich Klaasen

pulls his length back and goes short. Klaasen drags his pull to deep square leg for a single

22:59 (IST)24 APR 2023

You don't often see that visual. David Warner's valiant dive goes in vain and that puts pressure right back on Mukesh here.

22:58 (IST)24 APR 2023

17.1 Mukesh Kumar to Heinrich Klaasen

FOUR! Warner dives over the ball! Low full toss on the middle and leg-stump line. Klaasen brings his strong wrists into play and flicks this wide of long-on, where Warner couldn't cut it off

22:58 (IST)24 APR 2023

Mukesh Kumar [1.0-0-7-0] is back into the attack
