This Tie felt like a tug of war for most part. U-Mumba started strong winning the first two single's matches. But it was the mixed double's encounter that turned things on its head. Harmeet Desai and Yangzi Liu after losing their single's matches, came back to pip the U-Mumba pair and there was no looking back. Bobocica and Ghorpade went on to win their respective matches in the first two games itself. U-Mumba did come up with the goods in last games of both. But the damage had already been incurred. MARIA TAKES THE MATCH! Yangzi Liu came back from 1-7 to level the score. She was resolute with the backhand and as good as she has always been with the forehand. But then, she missed one, giving Xiao the momentum back. And then, there was no looking back for the Spanish paddler. She was as stubborn with blocks and even more scornful with the top to bottom slaps off the forehand.

DID SOMEONE FLIPPED A SWITCH? Xiao has seemed to switch gears. She is disdainful with the slapping returns. WAIT! HOLD ON! Yangzi changes her length. Two points picked up with shorter returns and then goes deeper to pick another one. She is back.

MAMMA MIA, MARIA! She is standing tall and making things happen. The side spinning serves are perhaps putting Liu off and then, Xiao is relentless with the top to bottom slaps on a half-long length.

THIS IS MARIA'S! Once again, the heavy side spinning return. Yangzi wanted to send this back flat with a forehand. It ended up being too flat and hit the net.

ANOTHER GOLDEN POINT! Xiao has a stroke of luck. She pushes the backhand into the net and it just rolls over the tape to fall on the edge of the table and then go down. Unrecoverable for Liu.

FINESSE!! Yangzi continues to set up points in different manner. She set one up with constant backhand punches into the left hander's body before unfurling the forehand kill smash. Then she slows the pace down in the next rally and ultimately defeats Xiao on the side-spin.

BACKHAND BLUES! And it continues. Both players continue to lose more points off the backhand, than they are winning. Xiao has been excellent with her side-spinning serves though.

AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY! A game where both players seemed to be losing points off the backhand, Liu picks her last two with the backhand. The penultimate one where she pushed hard with a snap of a wrist to change the direction. The game point, a shorter punch which had more side-spin on it.

ANOTHER PULSATING BATTLE! Another game that has been neck to neck thus far. Both paddlers have been winning points on lobs and losing them on backhand pushes over the last few rallies.

Xiao lost the first point as she was made to fetch it from the deep forehand corner. But then, she came back with some very good top spinning serves that Yangzi Liu hasn't been able to answer. But as I type this, Liu comes back picking up a couple of points on her own serve.

Match 2: Yangzi Liu vs Maria Xiao

It is now a battle between two players of Chinese origin. Xiao is the more experienced of the two. She has represented both Portugal and Spain at the international level. But Liu has been the more impressive one in UTT at least. She is the Oceania Champion and was undefeated in this league coming into season 5. Though, she has lost her last two matches to more experienced players and would be rearing to stage a comeback performance.
