Game Kerber! Pliskova returns an aggressive double-handed backhand to Kerber but she's misjudged where to hit it, and it sails out of the line - giving the German the point and the game!
Aaaand they're off! Pliskova opens the match but it's not started out too well for her! Kerber's now on her second break point - in the opening game!
"She's played a couple of Grand Slam finals, so advantage is with her, but I will try my best," Pliskova says.
Players are now walking out on court! Pliskova, interviewed before the match starts, says that the advantage rests with Kerber.
She also showed clinical control in her match against the big-serving Croat teen Ana Konjuh.
That was Pliskova's career-first WTA Premier title, and judging by her gameplay there will be a whole lot more.
Pliskova beat Kerber at the Cincinnati Masters final this year - with the German holding the runner-up trophy.
