WWE NXT Heatwave Live Results (August 22, 2023): Raquel Rodriguez haunts Rhea Ripley, the Creeds haunt Schism, Carmelo Hayes retains, and more.

There was definitely a lot of carnage in the main event of NXT Heatwave!

FULL RESULTS FOR NXT HEATWAVE (AUGUST 22, 2023).
Ilja Dragunov defeats Trick Williams by pin.
Ivy Nile defeats Ava by submission.
Noam Dar defeats Nathan Frazer 2 Falls to 1 Fall.
Dragon Lee and Lyra Valkyria defeat Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio by pin.
Von Wagner vs. Baron Corbin ends in a No Contest.
Carmelo Hayes defeats Wes Lee by pin.

Lee goes for a Suicide Dive by the ring post, but his feet get caught up in the ropes. He misses Melo, and his head hits the barricade. Melo beats the 10 Count and hits Nothing But Net for the win.
Result - Carmelo Hayes defeats Wes Lee by pin.

Lee counters out of a move. He goes for the Cardiac Kick but Melo catches it and hits a cutter. He adds a facebuster for another close fall. Melo hits a fadeaway DDT off the middle rope and onto the announce table. He heads to the top but Wes moves out of the way. Wes hits the Cardiac Kick but Melo rolls out of the ring.

Lee fights back and hits a Meteora for a near fall. Melo jumps up but gets kicked. Lee hits a package bomb and a Tornado Senton for another two-count.

They make it to their feet before exchanging chops and strikes. Melo lands a clothesline and Superkick for a near fall.

Battling in the corner, Melo hits the Fadeaway legdrop but both men still struggle to get to their feet.

Lee and Hayes keep going for the same move, including one landing a Spanish Fly on the other. Hard to tell because they both struggled to get up.

I was thinking it, but the ring announcer, referee, and both competitors are African-American. It's the first time two African-American stars battle for the NXT Title. Vic mentions this before the match begins. The two mirror each other with their moves.

Say her name and she appears . . . I believe in Becky Lynch!

Becky Lynch responded to Stratton's words about her. She claims that she "hasn't been NXT Women's Champion . . . yet."

Raquel Rodriguez spoiled Rhea and Dom's fun in NXT!

Bron Breakker sported a "Best Spear in the Business" shirt while attacking Von Wagner.

Schism cuts a promo ahead of the steel cage math next week. So the whole end game is that the Creeds "had to leave NXT" but didn't really because they were in masks. Had Dyad lost, they would have literally left because they want out.

Baron Corbin blindsides Von Wagner as he tries to make his way to the ring. The two big men battle around the outside of the ring. Von sends him into the steel steps. He then prepares the announce table for a chokeslam, but Corbin stops him. He lands a side suplex on Von before hoisting Mr. Stone on his shoulders. Von recovers quickly to save his friend. He clears the table off again and goes for a powerbomb but Bron Breakker lands a Spear on him. Bron mocks both Corbin and Von.
Result - Von Wagner vs. Baron Corbin ends in a No Contest.

We get backstage footage of Thea Hail trying to have last week's loss to Jacy Jayne overturned because Mr. Chase set it up. The call stands. Thea complains that she had momentum but lost it. Jayne walks up to her and actually compliments her, saying the beast she fought last week was different from the first Hail she fought. She says "people like us" can get through things like this.

Trick Williams comes by Carmelo Hayes as he's getting ready for tonight. Trick looks at the belt hanging a few times after Hayes says he doesn't want any interference marring his title run. Backstage, Tiffany Stratton shrieks to Mac Mitchell that she didn't care that Becky Lynch wasn't the NXT Women's Champ. She simply announces that the four ladies who got in her face will battle in a fatal four-way next week.

Lyra makes the tag to Dragon and he controls Dom. It's weird seeing someone be smaller than Dom (other than Rey). Dom goes for a 619 but Dragon Lee moves. He hits a Last Ride powerbomb but Rhea breaks up the pin. Lyra sends Rhea to the outside but is slammed into the ringside barricade. As he tries to get back in the ring, Raquel Rodriguez runs down and attacks her. Dom is distracted, allowing Lee to hit a spinning move on Dom for the win.
Result - Dragon Lee and Lyra Valkyria defeat Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio by pin.

Valkyria busts out of the submission but Rhea hits a convoluted suplex. It had some window dressing but ended up being a suplex. Rhea gestures "Suck It" to Dragon Lee as he waits in his corner. Ripley goes for the same suplex setup but Lyra turns it into a DDT.

Rhea has Lyra in leg scissors off the commercial break. She rolls it around to bully Lyra from her back.

John Cena is back the day before Payback!!

After some early posturing, Mami just decks Lyra. She hits a few clotheslines before attempting a suplex. Lyra lands a few chops of her own. She tries to roll Rhea up but Dom made a blind tag. Dragon Lee storms the ring and blasts Dom with a Superkick. Rhea then jumps back in but moves out of the way as Lyra lands a crossbody. The good guys land stereo moves to the outside.

Dom and Dragon start things off for their teams. Dragon knocks Dom back with a kick, leading to the women coming in for the first time.

The Meta-Four are celebrating backstage until a random lady shows up from the "Heritage Committee" with an envelope. It reads that starting next week, there will be a global 8 person tournament to determine his challenger for No Mercy. Why? It doesn't need to be that convoluted.

Ivy finally shows up outside but Ava tells the two masked followers to 'get her' but they don't because it's ***SURPRISE**** the Creeds. They challenge the Dyad to a reinstatement match in a steel cage next week.

Roxy says she's done with Blair before getting into the ring. She says she has something to tell Stratton before simply decking her. Chaos ensues. After that, we go to Drew Gulak's torture ring where Damon Kemp and Charlie Dempsey are training. Myles Borne walks over and says he did everything Gulak asked him to do. Dempsey then locks him in a choke hold and Borne taps out. Gulak says not to tap out. Okay, enough bullying the deaf guy.

Kiana calls Stratton a "Wannabe Barbie." Blair Davenport comes out next to say that they can all argue about trivial stuff but she's next in line. The three challengers continue to argue until thankfully, Roxanne Perez makes the save for the segment.

Gigi Dolin comes out and tells her to shut up. She wants to see "the fall of Tiff-Tiff" meaning the end of her title reign. Stratton shoots down Gigi's challenge. Gigi adds that she tapped out the last time she defended the title. Maybe the second-to-last time. Kiana James then comes out to continue the promo parade.

Stratton says the Summer of Tiff-Tiff is coming to an end, but the Fall of Tiff-Tiff will be even better. She adds that perfection comes easy to her. Name drops follow, like Bayley, Asuka, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch, people who she says she'll be a better champ than.

Hopefully this Heritage Cup stuff leads Frazer to beating Dominik for the North American title. That back-and-forth feud was funny at times but kind of a waste of time.

As predicted, Ava cuts a promo outside with the two people who carried her away. She calls Nile a "failure," just like the Creeds and the Diamond Mine. She then tells Nile to come find her.

Frazer hits a Superkick before going to the top. Dar jumps right back up. Mensah gets up on the apron but is kicked off by Frazer. Frazer goes for the Phoenix Splash but Dar moves out of the way. He hits an Enzuguiri for the win.
Result - Noam Dar defeats Nathan Frazer 2 falls to 1 Fall.

Frazer hits a few kicks but Dar lands one to Nate's back. He goes to the top but misses on a stomp attempt. Frazer hits a Crescent Kick but Dar counters into a leglock.

Ava leaves on the shoulders of two big members of the Schism (who aren't the Creeds).

Frazer hits a 450 Cannonball on Frazer and Mensah on the outside. He tries to make the pin, but Lash Legend grabs his leg so he can't get the win.

Frazer lands a front power slam for two. He misses a Phoenix Splash off the top. He gets a two count but Dar lands a back elbow for a near fall of his own. Frazer hits a Superplex and a spinning neck breaker to even the score.
After Round 4: Dar 1, Frazer 1.

Noam lands a few more strikes. Booker keeps saying that Bate shouldn't have been out at the ring to begin with, even though he is Frazer's second. Dar rolls out of the ring and Frazer hits a Suicide Dive. He hits a Standing Shooting Star for a near fall. Still 1-0 Dar. Dar hits a cheap shot after the buzzer.

Frazer recovers and locks in a Crossface submission but Dar breaks it by getting to the ropes. He goes for a move off the top rope but Dar kicks it and Frazer falls neck-first on it. Dar drops him off the rope and kicks him for a near fall.

During the break, something actually happened. Way to not show it during the actual boring match. Dabba-Kato came out and chokeslammed Tyler Bate on the ring apron. Dar took advantage and got the first pin of the match. Dar 1, Frazer 0.

I'm guessing the Nile/Ava match was so short because Ava STILL isn't ready for a longer match. Hasn't she been in the system for like three years? And hoping Nile can carry the match? Strange.

A lot of basic arm holds and counters as usual in the first round. Frazer hits a flip of the ropes but Dar slaps him. One pin attempt in the round.

Nathan Frazer's new entrance theme is terrible compared to his other one.

Ivy locks her submission back in after the match, causing a bunch of masked Schism followers to stand on the apron. Ivy knocks them down one by one until two masked people - who are definitely the Creeds - pull her out of the ring and walk her away from the ring.

Ivy moves out of the way as Ava rushes the corner. She lands a few kicks until Ava rebounds to hit a Scorpion Kick off the ropes. Ava hits another kick and goes for another bodyslam, but Ivy counters it into her Dragon Sleeper submission for the win.
Result - Ivy Nile defeats Ava by submission.

Ivy comes out by herself (until the masked meatheads show up to even the odds). Schism accompanies Ava to the ring for the match. They distract Ivy early on so Ava can bodyslam her twice.

Rhea and Dominik get ready for their mixed tag match. Mustafa Ali rushes in and says that NXT needs a Champion that they can be proud of. Dom says he doesn't care about NXT, only Mami. There's a joke with 10 seconds in there somewhere, but I won't go into it.

What a slugfest to kick things off for NXT Heatwave!!

Dragunov stands in the ring as Williams attempts to rise to his feet. Ilja shakes his head in acceptance that Trick can hold his own. Backstage, we see Tyler Bate doing some Tai Chi until Nathan Frazer comes in to check on him. Frazer asks for Bate to be his second since the Meta-Four will accompany Noam Dar for the match. They agree. Up next is Ava Raine taking on Ivy Nile.

Williams goes for a spinning kick but it's caught by Ilja. He's dropped by Ilja and then powerbombed. Dragunov adds the forearm from above for another near fall. Ilja goes to the top and lands a forearm off the buckle for the win.
Result - Ilja Dragunov defeats Trick Williams by pin.
