WWE RAW Results, live recap, grades: Gunther confronted by dominant champion in closing moments

Jey Uso defeats Xavier Woods via pinfall. Grade: C+
Sheamus defeats Pete Dunne via pinfall. Grade: B+
Lyra Valkyria defeats Sonya Deville via pinfall. Grade: D
Gunther defeats Sami Zayn via submission. Grade: A-

After the match, Gunther strolls to the ramp and raises his World Heavyweight Championship above his head. His celebration is cut short when WWE Champion Cody Rhodes enters the scene!!

With Gunther now finished with Sami Zayn, we're looking toward Crown Jewel, where Gunther and Rhodes will battle to determine who the top champion truly is!

Sami hit two Helluva Kicks but couldn't finish the job!

Sami escapes, but Gunther locks it in once again. Sami is just a few inches away from the ropes...but he falls in the wrong direction and passes out.

Gunther defeats Sami Zayn via submission
Grade: A-

Another powerbomb...and Sami kicks out at one!! Gunther looks terrified!! That is...until he locks in the sleeper hold. Sami is in a bad way in the middle of the ring.

Sami, somehow, kicks out of the pinfall there! Gunther follows with his running dropkick and a nasty powerbomb...but Sami fights through the pain and kicks out yet again!

Back in the ring, Gunther is rocked with a second Helluva Kick. The third, though, is stopped as Gunther meets him in the middle of the ring with a decapitating lariat!

Champion and challenger brawl to the floor, where Sami dumps Gunther on his head with an exploder suplex. As Gunther slowly stumbles to his feet, he eats a Helluva Kick!

Sami manages to get his knees up to block a diving splash, but he whiffs the Helluva Kick. Gunther catches him on the back of the neck with a chop and takes him overhead with a sleeper suplex for a near fall.

Sami's first few attempts at the Blue Thunder Bomb fail, leaving him open for a sleeper hold. The former Intercontinental Champion breaks away, though, and finally plants Gunther with the Blue Thunder Bomb for a two-count!

Gunther struggles throughout the break until the end, taking over right as we get back to a full-screen view. The champ stretches Sami over the ring post in a truly gruesome maneuver. After breaking the hold, Gunther hammers his contender with an uppercut that knocks him on his back. Sami is in serious trouble.

Gunther starts off by taking Sami to the mat and trapping him in a headlock. Sami breaks away and sends Gunther to the floor. The Ring General falls in an effort to dodge a dive, but Sami is simply bouncing back into the ring. The Underdog from the Underground might be in the champion's head!

It's time for the main event! Gunther defends his World Heavyweight Championship against Sami Zayn with higher stakes!

We get word that next week, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill will defend the WWE Women's Tag Titles against Damage CTRL. Will IYO SKY and Kairi Sane finally regain their gold?

Both sides run in for a shmooze after Sonya Deville tags in. After a big brawl, we're left with Sonya Deville battering Nattie with a stiff combination. Zelina Vega chokes Sonya and is tagged by Lyra Valkyria, who hits a diving leg drop on a bent-over Deville.

Zelina Vega pelts Zoey Stark with a series of kicks before sending her across the ring with a diving hurricanrana. Zoey blocks a roll-up by holding the ropes and catches Vega with a superkick and a gourd buster.

Next up is a ten-woman tag team match. Unholy Union and Pure Fusion Collective take on Natalya, Lyra Valkyria, Zelina Vega, Katana Chance, and Kayden Carter.

The first two-hour RAW and the women are already put together in a ten-woman tag, huh? Not a great look.

Backstage, Adam Pearce is meeting with Ava (Real-life Bloodline member and NXT General Manager). The two GMs are in the middle of an interesting discussion when they're interrupted by former NXT Champion Ethan Page. All Ego wants to settle some business with CM Punk, but that's not happening tonight. Pearce asks if Ava wants to handle it, but she says she's "off" tonight. Why is she here, then?

To see Sexyy Red, of course! Sexyy will be back in NXT tomorrow night for what's to be an incredible episode.

Pete Dunne zip-ties Sheamus' hands behind his back

We see Raquel Rodriguez pull up in the parking lot with Liv Morgan and Dirty Dom in the back seat. Liv says they're finally done with Rhea Ripley, and she's more focused on Nia Jax at Crown Jewel. In fact, she doesn't know if she needs to do anything on RAW tonight...so they all just leave. They get back in their vehicle and drive off.

...alright.

Dunne pulls out some zip-ties from the bar and ties Sheamus' hands behind his back. He follows with his own Brogue Kick but can't secure the win. As he goes for another shot with the cricket bat, Sheamus stuns him with another pump knee strike. After that, the Brogue Kick...all with his hands behind his back!!

Back in the ring, Dunne is rocked with the pump knee strike from his former ally. The Celtic Cross plants Dunne, but somehow, the Bruiserweight kicks out!!

Dunne moves to the top of a stack of barrels as he looks for a dive. Sheamus takes out his legs with a shillelagh and picks him up for the White Noise!! The Celtic Warrior jumps off the barrels, driving Dunne into tables down below!

Dunne dominates throughout the break despite being driven through the announcer's desk. Sheamus turns things around with the Irish Curse Backbreaker but can't hit the Brogue Kick. As Sheamus goes up top, he's cracked with Pete Dunne's shillelagh. A superplex takes Sheamus to the mat for a near fall.

Dunne jumps off a barrel for a tornado DDT on Sheamus. They brawl over to the announcer's desk, where a bar is set up. Sheamus catches a diving Pete and drops him on the table as we cut to commercial.

Sheamus overpowers Dunne with ease, battering his former Fight Night buddy and planting him with the Alabama Slam. Pete is launched to the floor, where he avoids a Brogue Kick from the former World Champion. Sheamus' leg hits a stack of barrels and may have pulled something.

It's time for the Donnybrook match between Pete Dunne and Sheamus!

We see Karrion Kross and The Miz speaking backstage when the Wyatts' logo pops up with the words "There You Are." Is that for Kross or Miz?

RAW deals with several production failures in a ten-minute period

As commentary gets ready to talk about Cody Rhodes, specifically the attack by Kevin Owens after Bad Blood, WWE runs into several production issues, leading to a lot of eerily quiet moments. Hopefully, they can get this fixed before too long.

Guess that face turn is dead for Bron Breakker, eh?

Bron isn't finished with Jey Uso. Not by a longshot.

After the match, Kofi and Jey shake hands. Woods, though? He pushes past the champion. While the New Day argues, Jey is cut down by Bron Breakker!!

Kofi attempts to save Jey, only to be broken in half by another spear from Bron. As Woods checks on his tag partner, Bron rounds the ringside area for a supercharged spear that nearly sends Woods flying into the stairs. Back in the ring, Bron cracks Jey with another spear before holding the belt high. It seems we're not done with Breakker and Jey.

Woods looks to finish the bout with the Limit Breaker Elbow Drop, but Jey stuns him out of mid-air with the superkick! After that, the Uso Splash wraps up Jey's first successful title defense!

Back from the break, Jey batters Woods with his patented combo, but the challenger shakes it off and responds with a rolling elbow.

Woods pulls Jey back inside and picks him up for a rather impressive walking-stalling suplex. It's not enough for the pin, but Woods' is showing us just how strong he's become.

Woods starts off hot against Jey Uso, battering the champ and sending him into the corner. Jey avoids a running attack, but a spear into the apron is stopped with a big knee from Woods. They brawl on the apron, and Jey awkwardly stumbles, falling to the floor.
