10 of the best cliffside base designs for Minecraft
1) Double tiered cliff base
To add a fun twist to a cliffside survival base in Minecraft, build on both the upper and lower levels of a cliff. These different base areas could then be connected via a large redstone elevator.
This results in quite a steampunk-feeling base with visible pistons and machines moving. It's also a great opportunity to experiment with redstone flying machines, which are useful in several advanced farms.
2) Cliffside port
Another very interesting direction to take a cliff base is to build up a custom town connected to a lower dock area via a winding rustic pathway. This design is similar to the previously mentioned split design but leans into the medieval Minecraft building aesthetic rather than the technical.
This base idea could also be made a bit more impressive by adding custom cranes and elevators to give the impression that cargo is consistently being shipped up to the townsfolk.
3) Cliffside castle
Castles are classic Minecraft builds for good reason. Their mixture of stone and wood materials is both aesthetically pleasing and cheap enough to build early on.
Castles also look incredibly cool atop a cliff, almost physically overlooking the surrounding area itself, regardless of those inside. Players could even take this build idea to the next level by adding a custom village below, consisting of different useful survival builds, such as farms, storage areas, and villager trading halls.
4) Cliffside village
A cliffside village is the perfect project for a group of friends on a private Minecraft server or a solo player wanting a large, and easily expandable, base design.
This cliff base utilizes many smaller buildings connected by rope bridges and elevators. Each building could belong to a different player or contain survival base features, like storage, enchanting areas, and more.
5) Suspended base
A suspended base is built into the vertical stone walls of the cliff, at least partially. Their exteriors are built to look like the entire base is bolted to the cliffside through the use of large brackets and bolts.
The different connections and industrial supports that this design features are infinitely customizable, making this a great base for builders wanting to experiment with new block palettes.
6) Cliffside coral base
An interesting way to build a nature-themed cliff base is to use the coral reefs found in warm oceans as inspiration. Using colorful blocks such as different wools, terracottas, and concretes will make it easy to build a custom coral reef foundation.
From here, the base can be built up the cliff in different coral shelves, almost as if it were growing up the cliff from the sea. This will lead to striking visuals unmatched by many other base designs.
7) Overgrown cliff base
An overgrown cliff base is a great option for players that find themselves living in Minecraft's dense jungles and forests. Having custom trees, bushes, and vines hanging over the side of the cliff, with the base built up underneath, is a great way to end up with a home that's both beautiful and hidden.
This makes for a great potential multiplayer base, as it can keep rare items and gear safely out of sight.
8) Parkour cliff base
Another interesting idea for a cliff base is to convert it into a miniature parkour course.
This design is similar to the previously mentioned cliff side village idea, but instead of bridges and elevators, the different areas of the base could be connected with different parkour challenges. This would help players get better at both building and playing these Minecraft minigames.
9) Custom waterfall base
There are few things in gaming as iconic as things hidden behind waterfalls. This is what makes a custom Minecraft waterfall cliff base a great potential design.
Such a base would feature custom waterfalls cascading over tall cliffs as their main focal point. The base itself is hidden safely behind the waterfall, similar to the previously mentioned jungle cliff base.
This would make for a great excuse to do some custom terraforming. Tall vertical cliffs are hard to incorporate in builds outside of cliffs, making this a great opportunity to experiment.
10) Glass cliff base
There are few sights in Minecraft as iconic as its sprawling vistas and oceans. A great way to make the most of the fantastic views often found near cliffs is to rip out a huge part of the stone and replace it with a giant window. This base is very customizable, as this large window is a great place to try out custom stained glass designs.
This would also make for a great late-game base design, as the window could be modified to make room for Minecraft player launchers once the End has been looted for elytra and flight becomes common.
