Minecraft 1.21, also known as Tricky Trials, introduced a ton of new content to the game, including trial chambers, new music, potions, paintings, mobs, automatic crafting, and more. With so much interesting content to check out and experiment with, it would be great to see Mojang revisit and revamp older features in the next major update.
Below, you can find 10 examples of features that really need to be touched up, along with what makes them need an update so badly.

10 older Minecraft features that need updating now that 1.21 is out
1) Implement delayed features
While Minecraft Tricky Trials has been quite positively received, a great way Mojang could build on this momentum is to have the next update focus on content that was promised but has been delayed.
Functionality for the fletching table was originally said to be coming with 1.16 but has yet to be added. It did get a use in the latest Minecraft April Fools joke update, which might hint at a future update.
The bundle is probably the other best example of delayed content. Originally revealed back at Minecraft Live 2020, these bags allow players to store up to a stack of random items within a single inventory spot and are Mojang's solution for the inventory problem.
2) Biome updates
There are three different biomes that Mojang has promised to update in the future. These are the desert, savanna, and badlands. The savanna and desert were promised to players all the way back in 2018, while the badlands update was revealed a year later in 2019.
Mojang said deserts would have palm trees, meerkats, and oases added, savannas would have baobabs, termites, and ostriches, and finally that badlads would have tumbleweeds, vultures, and a new type of cactus.
3) The End dimension
Minecraft's End is incredibly barren and boring. While this might make sense from a thematic perspective, as it's supposed to represent the literal void at the end of existence, it also makes the dimension truly awful to explore.
There's very little going on, both in terms of sights and gameplay. Adding in new enemies, structures, or even a biome or two would really spice up the End.
4) Creepers
The single most iconic mob of Minecraft is the creeper. However, the creeper is pretty underdeveloped, all things considered. Its green camoflague only works in forests.
Adding new variants of creeper for different environments would be a great way to make the mob scary again. It would also give Mojang an excuse to come up with different explosion effects.
5) The inventory
An unintended consequence of Minecraft's many updates is that more and more items are constantly being added to the game. This means that the inventory essentially gets smaller and smaller over time as it gets harder to carry things around. An update to the inventory is long overdue.
The new crafter block helps a bit, as it can process raw materials into complex items, reducing the total number of items in storage. However, other changes are needed as well. The bundle needs to be implemented, and stack sizes for common blocks should be increased.
6) Mushroom islands
Minecraft's mushroom biomes are made entirely of fungus, decorated with giant mushrooms and fungi-infested cows, unlike anything else in the game. While this idea is fascinating, these biomes don't have much going for them outside of their unique look and inability to spawn hostile mobs.
Adding some new biomes, mobs, or gameplay features to mushroom islands would make them worth hunting down.
7) Monster rooms
Monster rooms, originally known as dungeons, are the oldest structures in Minecraft. They don't need to be updated in the traditional sense, as their classic look is a large part of what makes them so beloved.
Instead, Mojang should definitely consider adding a more rare variant of the monster room that's larger and features an updated layout to spice up these old structures.
8) Optimization
It's no secret that Mojang's blocky masterpiece doesn't run particularly well, especially at high render distances or when moving quickly. With 1.21 introducing a ton of new content to mess around with, it would be nice to see the next update address performance issues. An update to the rendering engine would be incredible, and it might finally add Minecraft's best shaders to the base game.
There are plenty of mods that make performance better as well, meaning it makes even less sense that these changes haven't been made officially yet.
9) Slabs
Slabs are inarguably one of the most useful blocks for building. They allow players to add half-block increments to designs, which introduces a layer of detail otherwise unattainable.
However, there are two slab features that have been long requested by the community: vertical slabs and mixed-block slabs. Adding these two features to the game would revolutionize building.
10) Craftable golems
There are only two craftable golem types in the base game, despite all three of the spin-offs each containing several new golems. Bringing some of them into the base game and giving players ways to make them would be exciting.
There aren't many allies available to players, so adding a few more wouldn't hurt. There are hostile golems, too, which could make raids even more dangerous.
