Minecraft could benefit from tapping into the full potential of animal-based items. Adding more tools and equipment obtained from animals would add depth to the gameplay experience and offer players new ways to interact with the sandbox.

Items like the turtle helmet and wolf armor already demonstrate how animal-based gear can be both functional and exciting. Expanding on these ideas by introducing new animal drops and crafting recipes could provide new mechanics for players.

Here are four animal-based item ideas that could bring new features and excitement to Minecraft. These ideas not only add utility but also encourage players to explore and interact with the game’s diverse wildlife.

4 new animal-based items Minecraft should add in the future

1) Bee stinger dagger

Bees in Minecraft have more potential, but their drops are currently limited to honeycombs and honey bottles. Adding a bee stinger drop could introduce a new weapon. Players could craft this bee stinger dagger using bee stingers and other materials. The dagger would inflict poison on mobs, making it useful in combat.

Bee stingers could drop every few minutes from bees or be found in level 5 beehives. The Bee Stinger Dagger could also have enchantments like Bee Queen, Sting (levels 1-5), and Mending. Bee Queen would summon bees to fight alongside the player, and Sting would increase the poison’s effectiveness.

This would give bees a more significant role in the game and a new weapon that players would appreciate. Minecraft has very minimal options when it comes to the weapons.

2) Crab claw

Crabs were a popular contender in the 2023 Mob Vote but ultimately lost to armadillos. Introducing crabs into Minecraft would still be an excellent addition, especially if they came with a unique drop like the crab claw.

This item could allow players to place and break blocks from a greater distance, making it a game-changer for builders and resource collectors. Crabs could be bred using kelp, encouraging players to explore ocean biomes.

The crab claw’s functionality would make it a standout tool and might even make players wish crabs had won the mob vote. Its utility for construction and efficiency in gathering materials would be invaluable, especially for players focused on large-scale builds.

3) Rabbit boots

Rabbit's foot is currently limited to brewing potions. Rabbit Boots could change that by offering a new armor piece with unique abilities. They could be crafted using rabbit’s foot, and these boots could grant players increased speed or enhanced jumping capabilities.

The boots could also be part of a new armor set called Bone Armor, with the remaining pieces crafted from leather and bones. While Mojang generally avoids promoting animal hunting, rabbit’s foot is already part of the game, so this addition wouldn’t contradict their principles.

Rabbit boots would give players a reason to interact more with rabbits. The bone armor could also give more use for bones and leather.

4) Spider whip

Spider string could potentially be used in so many more crafts. Adding a spider whip could give players a versatile tool with multiple uses. This whip could function as a short-range weapon or a limited grappling hook, allowing players to swing between blocks or pull themselves to higher platforms.

The whip could have a base reach of 14 blocks, extendable with the enchantment Extend (levels 1-5), which increases reach by one block per level, up to 23 blocks. Other enchantments like Sting (adding poison effects) and Mending could also be added.

The spider whip would add more mobility and give more options when in combat. Its inclusion would make spiders more valuable to hunt and provide a fun new gameplay element.
