Minecraft preview 1.21.30.21 debuted for Bedrock Edition on August 1, 2024. It brings a plethora of changes and tweaks, some more impactful than others. Moreover, it introduces a collection of bug fixes to clean up issues from previous Bedrock betas. Whatever the case, this sizable preview update is worth downloading and installing to check out the new alterations.
With that in mind, it doesn't hurt to examine some of the best changes and bug fixes in Minecraft Bedrock preview 1.21.30.21. Fans may have their own opinions on this patch, but the following tweaks and fixes should be a net positive for players in general.
5 of the best changes, tweaks, and bug fixes in Minecraft preview 1.21.30.21
1) A rarity system reclassification

While Minecraft's rarity system doesn't impact gameplay at all, it is a useful way to know when players have acquired some pretty hard-to-miss items. However, it's been some time since the rarity system has been examined, and many items that were originally rarer (like enchanted golden apples) aren't quite as difficult to find as they once were.
With that in mind, Mojang decided to tweak the rarity value of several in-game items/blocks. These include enchanted golden apples, tridents, end crystals, armor trim smithing templates, music discs, sniffer eggs, and many more items and blocks that have become easier or harder to find in recent updates. This ensures that fans familiar with the rarity system receive the most accurate information.
2) Bug fix for firework crafting
For one reason or another, in recent Minecraft Bedrock previews, adding or removing ingredients to the crafting recipe for firework rockets would result in the output of the crafting table not updating correctly. For example, removing gunpowder or paper would still show a firework rocket in the crafting table output despite the item not being craftable.
Fortunately, Minecraft preview 1.21.30.21 has fixed this particularly irritating bug. Players can now add and remove crafting materials, while the crafting table UI reflects the appropriate information as to whether or not firework rockets can be crafted.
3) Smithing template name tweak
When smithing templates were introduced in Minecraft, they were split between armor trim and netherite upgrade templates. However, when players hovered over these templates, they would be named "smithing templates" with a tooltip explaining their category.
In the latest preview, the text placement is reversed, so players will know they've picked up an armor trim/upgrade template immediately. By mousing over a smithing template, players will now see "Wild Armor Trim" for example. A tooltip will inform them that they're examining a smithing template, which provides much more clarity in the long run.
4) New hallway challenges in trial chambers
While multiple tweaks were made to the Minecraft 1.21 trial chambers in preview 1.21.30.21, one of the more exciting aspects of the update involves new rooms in these structures. Specifically, new hallway variations have been introduced that include "encounters" according to Mojang, otherwise known as combat challenges that players can face before entering larger rooms.
This provides even more trial chamber combat challenges while also offering more chances to secure trial keys and ultimately loot.
5) Ice boat disappearance glitch fixed
A particularly strange bug appeared in the last Bedrock preview that was causing boats placed on top of ice blocks (a popular means of rapid transit since boats can slide incredibly fast over ice). The bug caused the boats placed on ice blocks to completely vanish.
The 1.21.30.21 preview has fixed this bug, so hopefully, it won't be a problem for preview players going forward. While this issue didn't afflict the non-preview version of Bedrock Edition, it's good that Mojang was aware of it and fixed it before it became a problem ahead of another major vanilla update.
