Mods are a big reason why Minecraft has thrived for so long. These are community-created content that introduces new items, mobs, entities, and mechanics for players to discover and utilize. However, it can be difficult to find cool new mods due to the sheer number of them available online.

Well, fret not since five of the coolest mods currently released for version 1.21 can be found detailed below, along with what makes them so entertaining.

Note: The list is subjective and based on the writer's opinion. The entries are arranged in no particular order.

1) Ars Nouveau

  • Latest game version(s): 1.21.1
  • Modloader(s): Forge, NeoForge

Ars Nouveau is an incredibly detailed mod centered around creating new magic spells, magical artifacts, and arcane rituals. However, unlike other magic mods, the spells and other mechanics added with Ars Nouveau aren't focused entirely on combat. Instead, players can use magic to grow crops, or even move, break, rotate, and smelt blocks, all of which offer incredible utility.

That being said, there is no shortage of powerful combat effects, as one can use summons, call down lightning bolts, and heal their allies in battle. Ars Nouveau has also paved the way for several add-ons and spin-offs, which introduce more content to experiment with.

2) Artifacts

  • Creator(s): ochotonida
  • Latest game version(s): 1.21.1
  • Modloader(s): Fabric, Forge, NeoForge
  • Link(s): https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/artifacts

Artifacts, as the name suggests, is an exploration mod that adds powerful magical artifacts throughout the world to discover and claim. They can be found within structures, inside of chests, underground, and as mob drops. There are over three dozen different items to find while exploring, with each having distinct and powerful effects.

For example, players can find artifacts that will automatically smelt mined Minecraft ores, apply an extra level of the looting enchantment when killing mobs, or completely remove fall damage. There being so many items with distinct effects also means that no two playthroughs should feel the same.

3) Terralith

  • Creator(s): Starmute
  • Latest game version(s): 1.21.1
  • Modloader(s): Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt
  • Link(s): https://modrinth.com/mod/terralith

Terralith is one of the best world generation and biome mods available for Minecraft 1.21. It adds just shy of 100 new biomes in total and overhauls the game's vanilla ones just so they don't feel out of place. Furthermore, it allows players to generate new physical terrain features, including canyons, floating islands, and deep ocean trenches.

The underground has also been touched up, with several exciting and dangerous new Minecraft cave biomes to explore and mine. Terralith will make almost every part of the world feel new and fresh, which is why it's an amazing choice when putting together a 1.21 modpack.

4) Repurposed Structures

  • Creator(s): telepathicgrunt
  • Latest game version(s): 1.21.1
  • Modloader(s): Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt
  • Link(s): https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/repurposed-structures

Repurposed Structures is one of the best structure mods available to players. It aims to remix Minecraft's vanilla structures and give them several new variants and biome versions. The mod also affects both the Nether and the End, making it possible for structures like temples, mineshafts, and dungeons to appear within them.

As mentioned previously, biome-specific structures, like igloos, Minecraft desert temples, and jungle temples, all have new variants. Players might stumble across a dirt igloo in the plains or a dark oak temple within the eyesight of a dangerous woodland mansion. The possibilities within Repurposed Structures are nearly limitless, which is what makes it such a cool mod.

5) End Remastered

Since Mojang's blocky masterpiece is a sandbox game, it should come as no surprise that players need to fulfill a set of requirements to beat it. One of the best examples of a required action is needing to use the Eyes of Ender to unlock the End portal and reach the final fight against Minecraft's iconic Ender Dragon.

However, the experience of collecting and crafting these Eyes is identical across all playthroughs and Minecraft survival worlds, making it quite tedious. That's where the End Remastered mod comes in. It replaces the regular Eyes of Ender with new ones, all themed around different structures and mechanics.

For example, many biome-specific structures, like desert temples, jungle temples, and Nether fortresses, have a chance to contain an Eye within them. Additionally, players can obtain Eyes through random activities like enchanting items or trading with villagers.

There are a total of 16 new Eyes, and since the portal only requires 12, players have the freedom to play however they want and still reach the End.
