Diamonds remain one of the most precious resources in Minecraft. They're crucial to crafting not only high-end weapons and armor but also diamond blocks, enchanting tables, and firework stars. They can also be used to clone smithing templates. However, since they are quite rare compared to other resources, how can players find them reliably in the 1.21 update?
There are a few options to consider, and their effectiveness can vary depending on a player's world seed and where certain things are generated. However, regardless of the world players find themselves in, some ways to find diamonds remain fairly effective and unchanged by the Tricky Trials update.

5 of the best ways to find diamonds in Minecraft 1.21
1) Digging up buried treasure
Buried treasure in Minecraft is more plentiful than one might think. Some world seeds contain beaches with dozens of buried treasure chests all near each other.
Even though buried treasure only contains one to two diamonds at a 59.9% appearance chance on Java Edition and a 46.9% chance on Bedrock, those small amounts add up when players can open several chests that generate close to each other.
This may not be the most lucrative way to find diamonds in Minecraft 1.21, but once players know how to find buried treasure reliably on beaches, they can rack up dozens of diamonds in a very short period.
2) Opening village weaponsmith chests
Villages with blacksmith shops have long been popular locations, and this hasn't changed in Minecraft's Tricky Trials update. In blacksmith shops (particularly those operated by weaponsmith villages), players can find reward chests that are filled with high-quality items, including diamonds on occasion (with a 16.2% appearance chance in both Java and Bedrock Edition).
By finding the right world seed, players can find diamonds in Minecraft 1.21 quickly by picking a seed that contains blacksmith villages with weaponsmith chests. Since loot tables in villages are tied to their seeds, players who find diamonds in a weaponsmith chest can share their seed. Their fellow fans will find the very same diamonds when they recreate the seed.
Much like buried treasure, village blacksmiths won't provide a massive trove of diamonds. However, they offer an excellent way to quickly rack up a few diamonds to help players with their crafting needs.
3) Looting trial chambers
The Minecraft Tricky Trials update's trial chamber structures offer players multiple ways to find diamonds, thanks to the various storage blocks they contain, including barrels, pots, vaults, ominous vaults, and chests. All of these containers have a chance to provide diamonds when broken or opened, even if it isn't guaranteed.
Below, players can find the approximate appearance chances of diamonds in trial chamber containers, depending on the edition of the game:
- Corridor Pots: 1.4% chance in Java and 0.8% chance in Bedrock to find one to two diamonds in Java and 1-4 diamonds in Bedrock.
- Vaults and Reward Chests: 9.6% chance in Java and in Bedrock to find one to two diamonds.
- Intersection Chests: 21.5% chance in both Java and Bedrock to find one to two diamonds.
- Intersection Barrels: 5.9% chance in both Java and Bedrock to find one to three diamonds.
- Ominous Vaults: 25.5% chance in Java and 31.2% chance in Bedrock to find two to three diamonds.
4) Looting end city chests
Even though players who enter the End and defeat the Ender Dragon likely already have a few diamonds, end cities are nonetheless a solid way to find the items in Minecraft 1.21, thanks to the reward chests found within them. Each reward chest in an end city has a 21.2% chance to contain anywhere from two to seven diamonds, making them a bit more abundant than some other options.
If players are willing to combine looting end cities with some of the other methods listed above, they should have plenty of diamonds without needing to head down into the mines.
5) Fortune/Efficiency pickaxe mining at low height levels
If players want to find diamonds in Minecraft 1.21 and collect them in a much more lucrative fashion compared to looting, mining at the right height levels using a pickaxe enchanted with Fortune and/or Efficiency is an excellent method. Specifically, diamond ore generates in "blobs" of different numbers of ore blocks. If players are willing to mine deep, they can find a plethora of diamond ore.
As of the last few major updates, the deeper players mine, the more likely they are to find diamond ore. Diamond ore block blobs generate between Y=14 and Y=-64. The closer players approach Y=-64, the more likely they are to find diamond ore. This means those who start mining at Y=-64 and work their way up can find plenty of diamond ore to break with a Fortune pickaxe, increasing diamond yields.
