Minecraft finally got its much-anticipated Tricky Trials update that fans have been waiting for months. The update dropped on June 13, 2024, across all platforms. Tricky Trials is easily one of the most well-received updates for the game and that’s because of the amazing content the developers have added in the update. It brings new mobs, new weapons, new blocks, and even a new maze-like structure called trial chambers.

There are so many interesting things that came with the Tricky Trials update, but some of the features came out of left field. Take a look at a list of five unexpected features that were recently added to the game.

5 least expected features in Minecraft 1.21 update

1) Mace

Minecraft finally got a new weapon after years and the wait was worth it. Melee attacks in the game have become stale over the years, with the attacks being button-mashing and nothing else. However, the mace changes things up and makes combat more challenging.

The mace is the most powerful weapon in the game, but players need to use it properly for it to reach its maximum potential. This weapon deals more damage depending on the height you use it from. A properly timed attack will also negate any fall damage. Using the mace properly will one-shot kill most Minecraft mobs but if you miss, it will likey result in you taking fall damage instead.

2) Breeze

The Breeze is a mini-boss that is very similar to the Blaze found in the Nether. It uses a wind charge attack to deal damage to players and can move at blazing fast speeds.

Another thing that makes it so challenging is that the Breeze can deflect all projectile attacks. As a result, you have to get close to this dangerous mob and use melee attacks to defeat it. It is definitely one of the most difficult mobs to defeat and a pleasant addiction to the game.

3) Crafter

The crafter was a block that came out of nowhere, but it left everyone pleasantly surprised. As the name suggests, the crafter can automate crafting and make the process less tedious. It is operated using redstone and can craft items when the raw materials are available in its inventory.

An interesting thing about the crafter is that it is very similar to a block in a popular Minecraft mod called Create.

4) Nether portal

The changes to the Nether portal are all under the hood, but they will significantly impact the gameplay experience. Mojang Studios made some tweaks in the Nether portal behavior to allow players to take passengers with them. This means that you can take another mob, such as a villager, with you on a boat or a camel through the portal.

The other change to the portal is that now it allows minecarts to directly pass through it. This means that you can travel from the overworld to the Nether and back to the overworld without any issues.

5) The bogged

Something no one was expecting the Minecraft 1.21 update to bring was another variant of the skeleton. The bogged is an interesting addition to the game that can be found in the trial chambers and the swamp biome. Unlike the normal skeleton, the bogged uses poisonous arrows to attack players.
