Minecraft's Overworld boasts the most diverse and extensive array of biomes among the three dimensions. With such a vast variety, some of them will inevitably be overlooked. While the pale garden is in development, Mojang could also consider expanding and upgrading some of the existing biomes in future updates.
Players often come across certain biomes only to skip them or grab a single valuable item before leaving, as they may not offer much in terms of activities. By adding fresh features to these areas, the exploration and survival experiences could be significantly enhanced.
Compared to the more engaging biomes in Minecraft, some of these feel neglected in terms of development.

5 biomes in the Overworld that need an update
1) Badlands
The badlands biome in Minecraft comes in three distinct variants, each with its unique features. The first, simply called badlands, is a desert-like landscape dominated by red sand and abundant terracotta, with stained varieties. The second variant, wooded badlands, adds coarse dirt and oak trees. Lastly, the eroded badlands stand out with their towering terracotta spires.
This biome is also home to the armadillo mob, offering a reason to explore. Additionally, the badlands are rich in gold, generating more of it than other biomes, making them an excellent resource-gathering location.
Introducing archaeological sites with relics or inscriptions could hint at the history of the badlands, tying them into Minecraft's broader lore. One of the badlands' main mechanics could focus on archaeology.
2) Desert
The desert biome is an arid landscape dominated by sand and sandstone, with cacti and the occasional dead bush. Fossils can sometimes be found buried beneath the surface, and at night, the biome spawns husks. Players can encounter desert villages, pyramids with hidden treasures, and desert wells.
The desert could feature an oasis with dirt and palm trees, from which players could gather fresh logs and food. Just like the badlands, the desert could also be a biome where archaeology takes precedence. Meerkats could also be added, as promised in the biome vote.
The pyramids and desert wells could have revamp and an upgrade. Sandstorms can be added to the weather cycle and would be the equivalent of rain and snow in the desert.
3) Birch forest
Some fans dislike the birch forest and the tree itself. The situation was exacerbated when a visually appealing concept for the birch forest was shared. The concept for birch forest included taller birch trees and additional branches. Additionally, it featured fallen, hollow logs on the ground, as well as more flowers and other vegetation. Finally, it suggested the inclusion of molds on trees.
A fresh variant of birch can be added like how oak trees have a dozen different subspecies. The new birch could be similar to the ones found in the Silver Birch mod which featured a much more white birch. If not, a birch species with yellow and orange leaves could be added which represent different seasons to create more visual appeal.
Apart from just changing and adding new types of birch, a biome-exclusive orange grass block would also help birch forests.
4) Mushroom fields
The mushroom field biome is an island covered in mycelium, where mushrooms grow abundantly. This peaceful landscape is the only place in the game where mooshrooms — a unique hybrid of mushrooms and cows — can be found. Mushroom fields are a rare biome with limited activities, and there is potential for upgrades to enhance the experience.
New types of mushrooms could be added, which, when broken, yield unique stems that can be used to craft new planks, similar to warped and crimson stems. The biome could feature a new type of mushroom cave where various light sources, akin to shroomlights, can be discovered. This cave could also contain new mushroom varieties found only underground.
Additionally, fresh mushroom mobs could be introduced, allowing players to trade with them similarly to piglins, but instead of gold, they would accept moss.
5) Savanna
The savanna biome comes in three variants: the standard savanna, a sprawling grassland with acacia trees; the savanna plateau, a higher-elevation version of the normal savanna with gentle hills; and the windswept savanna, a mountainous variant featuring steep cliffs.
It is characterized by its distinct acacia trees, tall grass, and occasional villages, but it often feels underdeveloped compared to other biomes. Similar to the badlands, the savanna biome also features the armadillo mob.
Additionally, elements from the biome vote can be included, such as ostriches, termites, and baobab trees. Exclusive stone variants specific to this biome, along with a new structure, could also be added.
