Minecraft has a trading system that allows players to trade with different villagers and get some sweet deals. One of the most common trades that players prefer is emeralds and other items for enchanted books from a librarian. In fact, trading is the only way to get important items, such as the ocean explorer map or the woodland explorer map. But that does not mean that trades are always great. Some can be bad.

In this article, we list five villager trades that are a waste of emeralds in Minecraft.

Minecraft trades that are a waste of emeralds

There are many trades with almost all the professional villagers that are a waste of emeralds. In fact, deep slate emeralds are the rarest item in the game. So wasting it is not a good idea. Let's look at all the trades in the game that are a complete waste of emeralds.

1) Turtle scutes for emerald

The Cleric will ask for four turtle scutes for just one emerald. This is a waste of both resources, as turtle scutes are difficult to farm. It is on this list because players only get one emerald, and the Cleric will happily take the single emerald for 2 Redstone dust or one Lapis Lazuli.

2) Diamond for emerald

Diamonds are not only one of the rarest items in the game but among the most important. They are used to make armor, weapons, and tools. Thus, when trading diamonds, one would expect to get a ton of emeralds. However, that’s not the case.

The armorer, weapon smith, and tool smith will take one diamond to give back only one emerald. That’s it. A single emerald offers literally nothing, which is why it is a complete waste of both items.

3) Every leatherworker trades

Perhaps the worst trader in the game is the leatherworker. Almost every trade it offers seems to be a waste. For example, players need to give five emeralds to get one leather cap or seven emeralds for a leather tunic. Perhaps the only good trade with the leatherworker is giving six emeralds for a saddle, as the latter are rare and take a lot of time to find.

4) Raw cod and emerald

The fisherman has some great trades, especially when players are seeking emeralds. However, one must give six raw cod and one emerald to the fisherman to receive six cooked cod. So basically, the fisherman just takes an emerald to cook the cods. This is perhaps the worst way to waste the precious emerald in Minecraft, as cooking just takes one or two coals.

5) 7 Emerald for an empty map

Making an empty map in the game is perhaps one of the easiest things to do. All players need is some normal paper, which can be made using a sugarcane plant. Thereafter, placing nine papers in the crafting grid will provide the empty map item. That’s it, cheap and empty.

But if players want to get the same item from the cartographer, they must shell out seven emeralds for one empty map, which is daylight robbery!

There are many ways of wasting emeralds in the game. However, giving out seven emeralds for an empty map is the worst trade, especially when the same cartographer takes emeralds to give the Ocean Explorer map and the Trial Explorer map, which is needed to find the trial chambers.
