Minecraft has four difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard, and hardcore. Though the most difficult level, hardcore, only grants one life to players and makes mobs much harder to kill, some players might like different kinds of difficulties that are not only related to the powers of different mobs'. Furthermore, a few experienced players might crave more difficult mobs.

Thankfully, the game has a flourishing modding community that regularly releases mods that make the game a lot tougher than usual. Here are six great mods that make Minecraft harder.

Tough As Nails is one of the most popular mods that adds an extra layer of difficulty in Minecraft. This mod mainly adds two new survival mechanics: body temperature and thirst. Players are required to keep an eye on these two while surviving other vanilla mechanics as well.

Players will experience hypothermia and hyperthermia while traveling through cold and hot regions of the world, respectively. It also adds various items and blocks related to these two game mechanics. These new features help players survive in extreme weather and water conditions.

2) Dusk

Players who frequently play it safe, quickly sleep to avoid any hostile mobs from spawning at night. This mod, named Dusk, alters those features to make it much tougher. With it, players can alter the time at which they are allowed to sleep to skip the night and also increase the number of hostile mobs as the night progresses.

There is even a toggleable option to completely disable the sleeping feature, forcing players to survive the night.

3) Majrusz's Progressive Difficulty

Even after defeating the Ender Dragon in Minecraft, the regular hostile mobs remain the same and are as easy to kill as they were previously. This is what Majrusz's Progressive Difficulty mod targets, as it increases the difficulty level of mobs as the player progresses through the game.

At first, the difficulty level is set to normal, then goes up to expert level when the player enters Nether, and further goes up to master level after defeating Ender Dragon.

At the highest difficulty, players will bleed a lot quicker than before. Furthermore, the undead army, a raid that summons after killing several undead mobs, gets an extra sixth wave.

4) First Aid

First Aid is another tough mod that completely changes the health system of Minecraft. It brings new first-aid mechanics, which players need to use on different parts to recover from injuries. The mod divides the body into different parts like legs, arms, feet, body, and head.

The tricky part is that if some parts of a player's body are not functioning, they will not be able to do certain things like holding shields, attacking, and more. The most difficult part of the mod is that if a player gets hit in the head, they will instantly die even if they have full health.

5) Ender Trigon

Several experienced players could be bored of defeating Ender Dragon since they are accustomed to its mechanics and movements. This is where the Ender Trigon mod comes in. It essentially makes the Ender Dragon a lot stronger and mutates it to grow two more heads from its neck, similar to the Wither boss mob.

The modified Ender Dragon can strafe player's attacks and also shoot dragon fireballs more often. It can also grab the player by its mouth and throw them around. Several other features were added to the final boss of Minecraft to make it harder.

6) Difficult Raids

Though Illager raids on villages are decently difficult, some players might crave more challenge than the vanilla version. Hence, the modding community has come up with a mod called Difficult Raids.

As the name suggests, this mod adds an extra layer of difficulty in raids, with more waves, unique variants of Illagers joining the fight, and much more. The level of bad omen depends on the level of difficulty of each raid that takes place.
