One of the most fascinating parts of any major Minecraft update is seeing exactly what areas of the game Mojang decides to focus on. For example, the latest major update, Tricky Trials, focused on making the title more challenging by adding trial chambers and advanced redstone components to mess with.

There is no shortage of areas in Minecraft that Mojang could update in the future. Listed below are seven aspects of the game that the developer should consider touching up in the 1.22 update.

7 features and game aspects that need updating in Minecraft 1.22

1) The End dimension

Minecraft's End dimension is incredibly important to the game. However, it's also quite bland, frustrating to traverse, and boring to explore. While this might make some sense, at least from a thematic point of view, as the dimension is supposed to be the literal end of reality, it becomes a detriment to gameplay.

Mojang needs to update the End dimension in some way. Adding in new Minecraft structures, biomes, or mobs would go a long way in giving players reasons to return to this dimension.

2) Mushroom islands

Minecraft's mushroom islands are similar to the End dimension, in that they're also very neglected. However, they're actually in a worse spot than the End. Mushroom islands, for how useful they are to settle in due to their lack of hostile mobs, are mind-numbingly boring.

There is nothing but mooshrooms, giant mushrooms, and mycelium blocks as far as the eye can see. Given how interesting the giant mushrooms found in the Nether are, there's no excuse for overworld mushroom biomes to be this bland and unintersting.

3) Golems

The vanilla game is in desperate need of some kind of new craftable golem to go alongside iron and snow golems.

Mojang has conceptualized many different golems over the years and used them either in spinoff games or the mob votes. The developer needs to bring at least some of these golems to vanilla to spice up the allies that players have.

4) Minecarts

Rails very much need a movement speed buff. They used to be a viable means of transportation around important areas of a world but have long been made irrelevant thanks to boat ice paths and elytra.

Minecarts only see common use in Minecraft farms in the form of hopper minecarts, which is a shame since rails are satisfying to build and ride.

5) The inventory

It's very evident that Minecraft is in need of an inventory overhaul. Mojang is finally adding the bundle to the game, which will help, but the number of different blocks and items that players need to carry around has ballooned past the number of inventory spaces available.

A great potential way for Mojang to solve this issue would be to expand the stack sizes of common building blocks. This would make it easier to carry around large amounts of materials while simultaneously freeing up slots for more useful survival items.

6) Container management

Container inventories are also in need of some sort of overhaul. It's very frustrating to try and keep chests organized due to the huge amounts of block and item variants. Similar survival games, such as Terraria, solve this issue by giving players the ability to automatically add their inventories into nearby chest stacks.

A similar button would make maintaining large storage systems manually much less annoying than it currently is.

7) Optimization

Optimization updates would let the game run better with higher render distances (Image via Mojang)

Optimization is another area of the game in dire need of retouching. Java optimization is infamously awful but can be fixed through the use of Minecraft mods, such as Sodium, Clumps, and Lithium. Bedrock's performance is considerably better, which is reflected in its much higher default render distance.

However, even Bedrock still has issues running in large, redstone-machine-filled worlds. Since both versions of the game can run into problems running well, 1.22 would be a perfect chance to improve Minecraft's FPS.
