In Minecraft, many mineral ores can be mined, but not all are made similar. Some ores can easily be found in abundance, while others require a lot of mining at specific levels. Take coal as an example; it's quite common and can be found almost everywhere as it is a fuel source. Compare that to diamond, which is only available at certain levels.

But which ores are the rarest in the game? Sorting out the rarest ore in Minecraft can be tricky.

After the much-awaited Tricky Trials update, we have made a list of the seven rarest ores in Minecraft. This list is based on several factors and not just how often the ores are found. We have also considered other factors such as how much of the ore is found in one spot. Let’s get started with the list.

7) Gold ore

The first mineral ore in this list is gold ore. While many people might assume gold is quite rare, especially rarer than redstone and Lapis Lazuli, we also consider the probability of finding gold in the mesa biome.

The mesa biome has plenty of gold ores that can be found even on the surface level. Gold is also extremely common in the Nether. That doesn't mean gold is too abundant, but certainly the least rare among the rarest ores in the game.

6) Deepslate Redstone

Deepslate redstone is a rare ore in the game as it is found at deeper levels in caves. Fortunately, the thing about redstone and deepslate redstone is that once found, they usually spawn in large clusters of eight to 10 blocks.

5) Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is an essential ore in the game as it is mandatory for all enchantments. However, finding Lapis can be challenging as it is found at deeper levels and can be tough to locate. But just like Redstone, one can find large clusters of this ore at specific levels below the ground.

Lapis is usually found in the Y range (height) from -32 to 30. While strip mining is one option to get Lapis, finding large caves gives players the best chance of finding clusters of this mineral. Lapis is used almost exclusively for enchanting.

4) Diamond

Diamond is hands down one of the rarest ores in the game and one of the most coveted. Diamond is great for making armor, tools, and weapons, making it even more desirable. Diamond has a probability of 0.0846%, which is around 1 block of diamond in 1,200 blocks.

While this number might look already very rare, some have a higher rarity than diamonds.

3) Ancient Debris

Ancient Debris was recently added to Minecraft, and this ore can be considered the "diamond" of the Nether. Ancient Debris is used to make the coveted netherite armor, tools, and weapons and can only be found around bastion remnants. It can also be found in chests found in bastion remnants.

2) Emerald ore

Many people might be surprised to find emerald ore as one of the rarest ores in Minecraft, not to mention another ore of this type has the highest rarity. This is due to how common emerald is among villagers as they use it for trading.

But since we're talking about naturally occurring ores, those of emerald are one of the rarest, generated only in certain biomes and regions; unlike diamonds that occur everywhere. Naturally occurring emerald is found in mountain and hill biomes and are most commonly found at levels -16 to 320. Snowy mountains also are very likely to have reserves of emeralds at those specific levels.

1) Deepslate Emerald

Deepslate emerald is the rarest ore in Minecraft. While deepslate coal is rare, it spawns in large clusters whereas deepslate emerald is almost always found in single blocks. While there is no way to locate it, since it is embedded in deepslate block, players can expect it to spawn at Y level below 0. So caves and deep mining shafts are the only places to expect these.
