After years of wait and anticipation, fans finally got to see the official trailer for the upcoming A Minecraft Movie, and it has left a lot to be desired. With only a few months left for its release, it is very unlikely that the final movie will be much different from what we saw in the trailer.

So in this article, we will be listing everything that feels wrong in the live-action Minecraft movie trailer. From how everything looks to how accurate things are towards the game, let’s get started.

Things that feel off about the Minecraft trailer

Even before the trailer was released, people were treated with leaked images showing what some mobs would look like, and it led to major disappointment. But the possibility of the leaks being fake or perhaps early test images gave a glimmer of hope. And then the trailer was dropped, confirming everything the fans were fearing for.

1) The look of the movie

So the first thing that felt very wrong is how mobs in the movie look. The animal mobs such as the sheep, the alpaca, and even the wolf look concerning, as the makers have tried to make them realistic. The mix of animated and realistic looks makes them look uncanny, which is the complete opposite of the mobs in the game.

The makers should have gone with something similar to how the mobs look in the vanilla game. For example, the realistic fur and skin texture makes them look like real animals, while the facial animation and design lean towards an animated look. This is not the case with the mobs in the game, even when using texture packs and shaders.

2) Jack Black does not look like Steve

The second biggest problem with the trailer is how Steve looks. Everyone is used to seeing Steve with this clean-shaven look and short haircut. But for some reason, the makers let Jack Black, who is playing the character of Steve, keep his long, salt-and-pepper beard, and hair. He looks like Jack Black just pretending to be Steve from Minecraft.

Perhaps the movie might show Steve getting into his in-game look with a goatee beard and short hair once he starts fighting the piglins and that could definitely save his character. But if they do not show it, then it will be perhaps the biggest blunder of the movie.

3) Bizarre look of the game world

Many people are also not happy with how the world of Minecraft looks in the movie. It looks too cluttered, and over-saturated, and has the same semi-realistic appearance as the mobs. It just feels very fake and takes away the whole immersion factor from the movie.

At this point, all we can hope is that the movie is fun and at least enjoyable. Perhaps the makers might even send the movie for some refinement. But it seems very unlikely. A Minecraft Movie releases in theaters on April 4, 2025.
