After a long wait for updates on the upcoming Minecraft live-action movie, fans finally got the first official look at what Warner Bros and Mojang have been working on for years. Unfortunately, most fans were disappointed at almost everything the teaser had to offer. From how the mobs and even Steve look to the apparent addition of new items, many things didn't make sense to even long-time fans of the game.
But here’s the thing: many fans perhaps misunderstood a few aspects of the trailer, and there’s a good reason for it. It seems A Minecraft Movie is based more on Minecraft Legends than the original open-world game. So, we list things fans of the game got wrong about the movie trailer.

A Minecraft Movie misconceptions
There's no doubt that the movie looks bizarre, to say the least. The animation style of the mobs, the world looks off, and Jack Black doesn't look anything like Steve. However, there are quite a few misconceptions about the trailer among the people. So, let’s start with some of the items shown in the trailer.
New items
The very opening shot of the trailer shows a blue portal that's supposed to look like the nether portal with its purple glow. Many fans say the color is wrong. However, considering that the characters enter the world of Minecraft from the real world, this has to be a new portal created just for the movie, and using purple would be inaccurate.
Some other new items shown in the movie are twin buckets connected with a chain link. In one shot, Jason Momoa crafts this item that wasn't seen before in the game. In the same shot, he uses a hammer to craft the item, which is yet another new item made for the movie. Some shots of the villages also show windmills, which are missing from the game.
The first few scenes show Sebastian Hansen carrying a blue orb, which looks like the key to the portal and the game world. While there is a similar-looking item called the Orb of Dominance, makers have likely added this item for the movie's plot.
Unseen mobs
Many players are also confused about a new mob that appeared for a split second. Toward the end of the trailer, we can see a piglin bastion and a bizarre mob with purple eyes. While one cannot find this mob in the original game, it's from Minecraft Legends and called the Seer. This mob only appears during a cutscene in the game.
Piglin behavior
Here’s something many fans misunderstood: piglins cannot stay in the overworld for more than 15 seconds, after which they turn into zombified piglins. This is not true for Minecraft Legends, where piglins came from the nether to attack and take over the overworld. And by looking at the character design of the piglins, they are inspired by Legends.
A Minecraft Movie is scheduled to release on April 4, 2025, in theaters only.
