A simple feature could have made Minecraft's new Pale Garden biome even better

Minecraft recently released the Pale Garden biome with The Garden Awakens drop on December 3, 2024. This new spooky region is completely desaturated, including its grass blocks, tree leaves, tree barks, and even the sky. At night, it spawns the new Creaking mob that hunts players when they aren't looking at the creature.

While the Pale Garden looks eerie, Mojang could've improved the biome by adding a simple feature.

Which feature could have improved Minecraft Pale Garden's look and feel?

Pale Garden could have had fog in it

Many Minecraft biomes look and feel different. Some have clear blue skies and full visibility, while others look dark and dingy. This difference in environments gives the game's world a unique look. Fog plays an important role in a biome's look and feel, especially in the Nether. Many biomes, such as Basalt Deltas, Soul Sand Valley, and Warped Forest, have heavy fog, disallowing players to look beyond a certain point.

While there are mods and shaders that remove fog from biomes, the feature gives an extra touch to the vanilla experience.

This is the exact feature the new Pale Garden could've had in The Garden Awakens Drop. Since the Pale Garden forest area has desaturated blocks, colorless fog could have gone perfectly with the overall look of the biome.

In the picture above, we showcase how fog could look in the Pale Garden biome by completely reducing the render distance. The change in settings automatically created a fog in the new biome after a point. However, Mojang could've incorporated the actual fog feature in the region to make it even spookier.

Other features that make Pale Garden spooky?

Despite Pale Garden not having any fog, it is still quite spooky on its own. When players enter the new region, all the game sounds die down and players are greeted with a pin-drop silence, with only occasional wood-creaking sounds. The sky above them turns pale from bright blue.

While the biome is quite harmless during the day, things get tricky at night. The new Creaking mob spawns from its creaking heart, and various regular hostile mobs spawn in the region.
