Despite Minecraft being a peaceful game allowing players to make a house, have a farm, and some animals, the game can get dangerous quite fast. The blocky world of Minecraft is replete with hostile mobs like zombies and skeletons and having something to protect the player is necessary, especially at night. A helmet is an integral part of the armor and the game offers a variety to choose from.
But which helmet is the best in the game?
Ranking all helmets in Minecraft

In this article, we will be ranking all the helmets available in the game. The ranking is not just based on how strong the helmet is. We are looking at various factors such as protection, durability, and most importantly, availability. We have also considered how these helmets stack up against the new powerful weapon called the mace.
6) Gold helmet
Many players might be surprised to see the gold helmet ranked the lowest on the list instead of the leather helmet. Gold helmet is a strong option as it provides a durability of 77 which is lower than iron but more than leather. It also has more defense points than a leather helmet.
But the reason why we have put a gold helmet here is because gold is rare, at least rarer than iron and leather. While a gold helmet will last longer than a leather helmet, it would be easier to make two or three leather helmets — as they are disposable. It is better to utilize gold for other uses such as enchanting.
5) Leather helmet
At number five, we have the leather helmet. This is the first helmet players get during their playthrough. While a leather helmet has a durability of 55 (lowest amongst all) and only has 1 defense point, it can be easily crafted by getting leather. There is no need for any tool but just a crafting table and some cows around.
Since leather is an abundant resource in-game, the cheap availability of leather helmets is what makes them slightly better than their gold counterparts.
4) Iron helmet
At number four, we have the most popular helmet and armor material in Minecraft. Iron helmets sit at the sweet spot in terms of durability, availability, and protection. Once the game progresses, the metal becomes abundant in the inventory, making iron helmets easily available.
Iron helmets have a defense point of 2 and durability of 165, making them the perfect candidate for protection. We have included the iron and chainmail helmets together as they are almost similar in all aspects.
3) Turtle shell helmet
One of the least used helmets in the game, the turtle shell helmet is arguably better than the iron and chainmail variants. While it is difficult to find turtles and obtain the material for this helmet — as opposed to iron — there are two areas where it excels.
Turtle helmets have a durability of 275, which is a hundred points more than iron while they have a defense point of 2. But that’s not all. Turtle helmets can be enhanced with the Potion of the Turtle Master enchantment that gives players the ability to water breathing.
2) Diamond
Diamond helmets used to be the most coveted variants in the game, as they offered the highest durability and most protection. If Mojang Studios had not introduced netherite in the game, we would have placed diamond helmets at number one.
Diamond helmets have a durability of 363 and a defense point of 3. So it is less durable than a netherite helmet but offers the same defense point. While it is rare, you can still find it in the overworld without venturing into the dangerous nether.
1) Netherite
Sitting at the top, the netherite helmet is the strongest and most durable option in the game. It has a durability of 407 and offers a defense point of 3. While it is extremely difficult to obtain the netherite armor and players are recommended to get a diamond armor set before venturing into the nether, the risk is worth the reward.
That concludes our ranked list of all the helmets in Minecraft. Note that every factor is essential when choosing a helmet.
