All Minecraft blocks and items in the rare category

Mojang recently released a new Minecraft snapshot 24w33a version that brings several changes to the game. This snapshot is for the upcoming incremental 1.21.2 update. One of the areas in which the developers have worked is the rarity category. They have shuffled several items in the rarity tier, marking some of them more common or rare than others. This has also applied to Bedrock Edition to maintain parity between both editions.

Here's the updated list of all the blocks and items Mojang has categorized as rare in Minecraft.

Here are all the blocks and items Mojang placed in the game's rare category:

1) Enchanted Golden Apple

Enchanted golden apple used to be in the epic rarity tier, but has now come down to rare category. It has a 22.5% chance of being inside one of the ominous trial vaults in the new trial chamber structures. Furthermore, it has an 8.4% chance of being in one of the chests in ancient cities.

2) Trident

Tridents also used to be in the epic rarity but are now demoted to rare. They have a 2.1% chance of being in a regular trial vault in the new trial chamber structure. Apart from that, drowned zombies have a 6.25% (Java Edition) and 15% (Bedrock Edition) chance of dropping tridents when killed.

3) Nether Star

Nether Star used to be in the uncommon category, but since it can only be obtained by defeating the Wither boss mob in Minecraft, its tier was increased to rare in the latest snapshot.

4) Ward Armor Trim

Ward armor trim was in the common category but is now considered a rare item in Minecraft. This is especially because it only has a 5% chance of generating chest loot in the spooky ancient city.

5) Eye Armor Trim

Eye armor trim has also been moved up to rare from common since it only has a 10% chance of generating alter chests present in strongholds. However, it has a 100% chance of being in one of the chests located in stronghold libraries.

6) Vex Armor Trim

Like other armor trims, the vex was considered a common item. It has now been shifted to rare particularly because it only has a 50% chance of generating in one of the chests in a woodland mansion.

7) Spire Armor Trim

Spire armor trim has also been shifted to the rare category from common since it only has a 6.7% chance of generating in one of the chests found in an End City. Since End Cities are also hard to find, the armor trim becomes quite rare to obtain.

8) Wither Skeleton Skull

When players fight Wither Skeletons in Minecraft's Nether Fortress, they have a 2.5% chance of dropping their skull as an item. Although the chance of it being dropped increases with looting enchantment on weapons, it can still be quite rare. Hence, Mojang shifted it to the rare category from uncommon.

9) Skull Charge Banner Pattern

This particular banner pattern can be crafted using a paper and wither skeleton's skull. As mentioned, a wither skeleton's skull is already a rare item to obtain. Hence, its banner pattern was also shifted from uncommon to rare tier.

10) Thing Banner Pattern

This banner pattern can be crafted using paper and an enchanted golden apple. Since this special food item was recently shifted from epic to rare tier, its banner pattern has also been shifted.

11) Music Disc Pigstep

Pigstep is a music disc that has been in the rare category since its release in 2020. It has a 5.6% chance of generating in a generic chest located in bastion remnants.

12) Music Disc otherside

Otherside is another music disc that has been in a rare category since its release in 2021. It can only be found in dungeons (3.1% chance), ancient cities (8.4% chance), and strongholds (2.5% chance in altar chest).

13) Music Disc Creator

Creator is a brand-new music disc that arrived with the Minecraft 1.21 update. It was also shifted to the rare category since it only has a 1.4% chance of popping out of one of the trial vaults when they're opened. Moreover, it needs a special creator music box to play it.

14) Guster Banner Pattern

Guster banner pattern also comes under the rare category since it can only be found in trial chambers in regular trial vaults. It only has a 4.2% chance of popping out of the vault.

15) Flow Banner Pattern

Flow is another brand-new banner pattern that arrived with the Minecraft 1.21 update. It has a 15% chance of being inside ominous trial vaults in trial chambers. Even though this is much more common than the rare guster banner pattern, its rarity balances out with the difference in trial vaults.

16) Beacon

Beacons are extremely useful blocks that can be crafted with nether stars. Since nether stars are in the rare category, Mojang also placed beacons in it. There is no other way to obtain a beacon apart from crafting it with a nether star.
