When players join Minecraft for the first time, they are greeted by a vast world with many different biomes they can freely explore. In terms of progression, the first spawning location in the game matters quite a bit since it can either give players a headstart or slow them down. Furthermore, one must find a biome in which they can settle and create their first base.

Here is a list of a few biomes that are great for new Minecraft players.

List of 4 best biomes for new Minecraft players in 2025

1) Plains

Plains are the most common biome in the Overworld. It can randomly generate between forests as new chunks load and is a relatively flat grassland with hardly any trees. Furthermore, it is the oldest and most basic biome, making it the best for beginners.

If players spawn in the plains, they will get ample space to build their very first base. The flattish terrain will help them place blocks more easily and create a home. Moreover, several farm animals that can offer resources like food, wool, etc spawn in the plains biome.

If players are lucky, they can quickly find villages generated in plains. These settlements can be looted for resources and villagers can trade items for emeralds, which can then be used for more important resources.

2) Forest

While plains can offer lots of space to build a base, forests are great for farming resources. As the name suggests, this biome is filled with lots of trees. The most common tree is oak, but players can also find birch.

This region is slightly more dangerous as players can find a few hostile mobs spawning even during the daytime, particularly because of the low light level under dense trees. However, it is the best biome to gather wood, an essential resource new players will use in abundance.

The forest can also be a good biome to build a base in, although players will have to create space for it by chopping down trees.

Though most of Minecraft's map is filled with landmasses, it also consists of vast oceans that are packed with unique mobs and structures. Hence, new players can also build themselves a base in beach biomes, which offer easy access to both land and water.

Players can create a beach house from where they can travel around in oceans on a boat and loot underwater structures. It is worth mentioning that they must protect their base a bit more since drowned zombies can attack them even during the day since they spawn in deep areas of the ocean, where light levels are low.

If players are lucky, they can also find adorable turtles spawning in this region.

4) Cherry Grove

Cherry Grove is one of the most beautiful Overworld biomes. If new players are looking for the cutest and most stunning biome to reside in, this is the best one.

Cherry Grove generates on top of plateaus and mountains, making it harder for hostile mobs to spawn and chase down players. Moreover, the biome grows cherry trees, which offer cherry wood that is light pink and can look beautiful when building bases.

The Cherry Grove also spawns useful farm animals like bees, pigs, sheep, etc., which can be used to get resources. Since this biome is generated on top of a mountain or plateau, chances are that it will have a massive cave right underneath it, which can be explored by players to spot useful resources without having to mine for them.
