Although the Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials update came out not too long ago, the developers are still hard at work and have started working on the 1.21.20 update for the Bedrock Edition. With the new Minecraft 1.21.20.21 beta and preview update, we get a glimpse into the new features, changes, and fixes we might see in the upcoming 1.21.20 update.

With the release of this beta, the developers have also announced that they plan on skipping the 1.21.10 update, which was supposed to be released soon. However, there is nothing to worry about since the features that were released in the previous 1.21.10 betas will still be added with the 1.21.20 update.

In this article, we will discuss the best and most noteworthy changes, features, and fixes in the Minecraft 1.21.20.21 Bedrock beta and preview update.

Minecraft 1.21.20.21 Bedrock beta and preview update: Best changes and features

The latest Bedrock beta has introduced quite a few new things, from which we have handpicked the five most important feature changes and fixes that will affect the majority of players:

1) Deferred technical preview shader changes

With each update, the gap between the Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions is being filled as new features that were absent in the Bedrock version are being introduced. This trend continues with the latest beta update, as it adds custom skyboxes to Bedrock in the deferred technical preview.

With how things are going, the Bedrock edition looking just as good as the Java edition with shaders is slowly becoming a possibility, and the support for custom skyboxes contributes significantly towards this much-wanted change.

2) Trial spawner fixes

In the Minecraft 1.21 update, trial chambers were introduced as an underground structure with a new kind of loot block called vaults. These vaults required specific trial keys that could only be obtained by defeating all the mobs summoned from a trial spawner block.

However, a feature is practically useless if it does not do what it is intended to do, and this was the case with the trial spawners, which sometimes wouldn't reward the player in Bedrock Edition. This issue has been resolved in this beta version, and players are hoping to see it come to the retail version soon.

3) Wind charge changes and fixes

Wind charges are unique ranged weapons that can knock entities upon impact while dealing a small amount of damage. More than for its damage aspect, wind charges are popular for the potential parkour tricks they make possible by launching the player into the air.

This Minecraft 1.21 feature has no chance of dealing more than one health point or half a heart of damage per hit in this beta update. A bug causing players to not experience fall damage when landing a second time has also been fixed.

Additionally, using a trident with Riptide enchantments correctly cancels fall damage reduction from wind charges in this update.

A noteworthy change made to the wind bursts, an identical effect produced by enchanted maces, is that the effect is now more consistent and no longer cancels out when the player jumps just before the wind burst occurs.

4) Vanilla Parity

This update packs a bunch of new parity changes to bring it closer to the Minecraft Java Edition. Here is a list of parity changes players will see upon installing this beta:

  • Mushroom stems no longer drop mushrooms when mined. The probability of mushrooms dropping has been increased from 10% to 11.11% to match the Java edition.
  • Consuming pufferfish now gives Nausea I.
  • An angry sound is played when a player is chased by zoglins.
  • Bees now take drowning damage when underwater for one second.
  • Players now get four quartz instead of one when crafting quartz bricks from a block of quartz.
  • The stonecutter now produces two slabs instead of one when oxidized cut copper is placed in it.

These changes are crucial as they bring the two editions of the game closer together.

5) New bed screen

A new bed screen can be enabled in this beta update, which will show up when the player is sleeping. The community has mixed feelings about this feature as, although the new screen is nice, it takes away the option to type in chat and tell others to sleep on a server.

In this particular beta version, players can enable this by navigating to the video settings from the main menu and scrolling down to find and enable "New Bed Screen (Experimental)."

This feature may or may not make it to the game as it has been labeled experimental. Additionally, the community's comments seem to be mostly negative as the chat has been removed, which will be a contributing factor to the developers' decision.
