Minecraft skins are one of the best ways for players to express themselves, and viewing one can evoke many different emotions. While plenty of skins are funny, cute, or even cool, others evoke a sense of unease and a little dread. To that end, plenty of creators share skins that can be downright creepy, especially when exploring the world at night.
With that in mind, it doesn't hurt to take a look at some of the creepier Minecraft skins created by the community. Every player has their views on what creeps them out, but these picks might just surprise them.
Five of the best creepy Minecraft skins to unsettle other players
1) Wendigo
Chart New Territories with the ultimate Minecraft Seed Generator!
A legend born from Algonquian-speaking tribes of North America, the Wendigo is often known as either an emaciated beast with a ravenous appetite for flesh or a malicious spirit that can coerce individuals into frenzies of cannibalism. Regardless of which interpretation players prefer, this hollowed-out husk of what appears to have once been a human being is far creepier than any vanilla zombie mob.
This skin should fit perfectly in heavily forested and snowy taiga biomes, as the Wendigo is well-known as a horror that stalks during the winter.
2) Totem
Sometimes the creepiest Minecraft skins offer a slow burn approach, beginning with a feeling of unease that grows as players continue to gaze at it. This skin could be one such example, as fans are sure to go through a roller coaster of emotions when they stare at this skin long enough, including one of discomfort. Multiple faces with different expressions scattered across a body is quite unsettling.
This skin could work quite well when lightly illuminated but still obscured partially in the dark, where its various faces and different expressions can contrast and look even more unusual.
3) Haunted Scarecrow
A lone scarecrow can cut a pretty creepy image, and ever since these straw-filled creations were used in human history, countless folktales and stories have emerged of scarecrows walking about and preying on much more than crows. This particular skin evokes a particularly creepy scarecrow design complete with a mangled grin that would look quite eerie standing in a field in Minecraft.
While this skin is already creepy when idle, it is unsettling to think about it skulking around in a field or a village at night, biding its time to sprint toward its prey of choice.
4) Herobrine 2.0
Just about any well-versed player knows the community-crafted legend of Herobrine well, a creature that began from the annals of internet stories and was eventually even recognized in Mojang's patch notes. However, this skin takes a revamped look at Herobrine's original design to become something more than just the default Steve texture with blank white eyes.
This skin has a much more blank expression, and while its eyes remain pale white, the skin is drained of color to look dull and lifeless. This Herobrine skin seems to blend a foreboding visage with one that feels sad as if players could almost feel some empathy for a creature like Herobrine.
5) The Watcher
When all else fails, sometimes players can just look at a classic monster skin, and The Watcher is a pretty great example of this. Bleeding, unhinged jaw, exposed semblance of a skull, and deep red eyes, The Watcher checks all the boxes for a creepy skin in a traditional sense.
While this skin doesn't look quite as eerie during the day, there's little doubt that it could produce a scare or two in a multiplayer setting when the game world is engulfed in darkness.
