As entertaining as Minecraft is, it's inevitable that its gameplay will start to get stale, especially after one spends several hundred hours in the same survival world. Thankfully, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of community-made mods out there for players to use in order to make the game feel fresh and exciting again.

Detailed below are seven examples of incredibly fun mods that players could use to spice up the title, along with what makes them such a great time.

7 of the best fun mods for Minecraft

1) Create

Create is one of the most popular Minecraft engineering mods available to players. It adds complex mechanical components to the game, such as waterwheels, windmills, and steam engines that need to be designed and built before they can power other machines.

Almost everything is possible using the Create mod, including more thorough automated crafting and easy resource gathering, as well as full sized train systems.

Vanilla Minecraft redstone needs to take major hints from Create to stay interesting and fun.

2) YUNG's Mods

The YUNG's collection includes all of the following structure mods:

  • YUNG's Better Dungeons
  • YUNG's Better Jungle Temples
  • YUNG's Better Mineshafts
  • YUNG's Better Strongholds
  • YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments
  • YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses
  • YUNG's Better End Island
  • YUNG's Bridges
  • YUNG's Better Witch Huts
  • YUNG's Bretter Desert Temples
  • YUNG's Better Caves

These mods all aim to overhaul and enhance the game's vanilla structures. They're all larger, more dangerous, and filled with better loot. This makes each of these structures quite fun to tackle and worth hunting for, even across many different biomes and

Maybe the best example of these mods' aim to revamp Minecraft's many structures can be found in the mineshafts. This mod overhauls the abandoned mines that are scattered throughout the underground. Vanilla mineshafts are confusing but simple. YUNG's, on the other hand, are grand-scaled labyrinths, featuring different levels and even decrepit mining outposts.

Due to how thematically similar and cohesive YUNG's collection is, many Minecraft mod packs will include all of them as a set. That's why all of these mods share a spot here. While they're all unique, standalone mods, that's simply not how they're treated.

3) The Twilight Forest

The Twilight Forest is one of the oldest and most iconic mods out there. It introduces a new dimension, aptly named the Twilight Forest, where players can find several new bosses, huge lanyrinthe Dungeons, and powerful unique items. It's easy to see what makes this mod such a great time.

There is always new content to find and experience, and the sense of progression as bosses are defeated is incredibly fulfilling.

4) Repurposed Structures

Repurposed Structures, as the name suggests, is a Minecraft structure mod that totally overhauls the variety of buildings found throughout the game's different biomes. It's a simple but effective mod that allows vanilla structures to generate in the shape of others.

For example, a desert temple might generate made of wood in the center of an oak forest, or a village might take the shape of an end city. This mod makes exploring fun and exciting again, giving players more than enough reason to explore the farthest reaches of their survival worlds.

5) Alex's Mobs

Alex's Mobs is one of the few detailed and well-made mods focused on introducing new Minecraft mobs. It adds 89 new creatures, including both fantasy and real animals, to the game's different dimensions. These animals range from tiny tameable mantis shrimp to the imposing fictional leviathan.

Finding all of these mobs for the first time is entertaining enough, but dozens of them can also be tamed and used to fight against hostile mobs.

6) Artifacts

What makes Artifacts such a fun mod is that it adds a number of items to Minecraft that all have strange, unique, and sometimes bizarre effects. These items are found as chest loot, meaning that they're scattered across the many different structures that players can stumble across.

For example, players can find rabbit slippers that increase jump height and mitigate fall damage, flamingo pool floaties to stay on the water's surface, and night vision goggles to see in dark areas. These powerful utility abilities make it much easier to mess around and have fun without ending up needing to respawn.

7) Farmer's Delight

Farmer's Delight is a cute and fun mod that greatly expands on the base game's agricultural and cooking systems. The mod adds four new crops, which double as useful ingredients: rice, cabbage, tomato, and onion. Players can combine these ingredients with vanilla foods to make salads, stews, sandwhiches, and more.

Learning all the new recipes is quite fun, and constantly experimenting with different potential combinations of ingredients feels vaguely reminiscent of real-world cooking.

Farmer's Delight also introduces new blocks and Minecraft decorations to make building even more enjoyable.
