One of the most famous aspects of Minecraft is the pseudo-electricity system known as redstone. Genius players have created large-scale machines, totally digitized computers, and even replicated other games, such as Pokemon, using it. So it should come as no surprise that redstone is also one of the most commonly expanded areas of the game by mods.

Detailed below are seven of the best redstone and technology mods currently available to players, along with what makes these mods worth installing.

7 of the best Minecraft mods for redstone machines and technology

1) Create

The Minecraft Create mod, by simibubi, is undoubtedly one of the best technology- and redstone-related mods out there. It adds hundreds of new mechanical components, such as pipes, gears, and gearboxes, that can interact in new and fascinating ways. One of the best examples of this is the automatic crafting system that's much more expansive than the vanilla one added with 1.21.

2) Immersive Engineering

Immersive Engineering is a retro tech Minecraft mod by BluSunrize. The mod is based on real world technology to boost immersion. To that end, the mod features immersive powerlines as one of the major selling points, along with larger multiblock machines that are much more visually impressive. The mod also has a very handy in-game guidebook to help players learn, a feature more mods need.

3) Tiny Redstone

Tiny Redstone, by Danny_and_Son, is a fascinating Minecraft redstone mod. Rather than adding new components or features to the game, the mod brings smaller versions of the vanilla ones. Players can fit up to 8x8x7 blocks worth of redstone within a single full-sized block. This allows for much more complex machines, as exponentially more components can fit within the same space.

4) Floor Mats

Floor Mats is an interesting redstone mod. Rather than introducing a plethora of major redstone machines and components, it adds multi-block pressure plates. There are wood, stone, iron, and gold floor mats, with each only connecting to mats of the same material. This allows players to create totally custom-shaped pressure plate designs.

The potential uses of complex pressure plates in redstone contraptions such as Minecraft mob farms or player traps are immense, which is what makes this mod great.

5) More Observers

Minecraft observers are some of the most important blocks in many advanced redstone contraptions. This is what makes the More Observers mod by stephenb6174 so compelling. It adds four new observer variants, each with a distinct and useful purpose.

One of these observers is the surveyor, which sends a redstone signal depending on how far away the closest block to its front is. A block directly in front of it sends a signal of 15, while a block behind that would send a signal of 14. Another of the new components is the mobserver, which detects all mobs within a 5x5x5 region and outputs a signal based on that.

6) Uppers

Uppers is a Minecraft hopper-related mod by vadis365. The mod, as the name suggests, adds a new variant of hopper that can send items up. The utility of this mod is sublime, as players usually need to make complex item elevators to move things. Removing these frustrating secondary builds will make farms and storage rooms much easier to construct.

7) Wooden Hopper

Wooden Hopper is another hopper mod by thecech12. It adds a new variant of hopper that is constructed using wood and a chest rather than iron and a chest. This makes it much easier to use hoppers in the early and mid-games. To balance out this accessibility, they only move items half as quickly, but this doesn't tend to matter in the less efficient early game farms where they're most useful.
