Minecraft builders never stay on the ground floor of their builds for long, leading them to build staircases to ascend and descend the structures as they please. One of the more visually appealing designs is a spiral staircase, a twisting and column-like set of stairs reaching up into additional floors both above and below the ground floor of a player's structure.
With that in mind, it doesn't hurt to examine some of the best spiral staircase designs to utilize in Minecraft. While these designs vary significantly from each other, they do provide a great balance between form and function for a variety of different builds.

5 of the best spiral staircase designs in Minecraft
1) Natural Spiral Staircase
Just because a Minecraft player is making a spiral staircase doesn't mean they have to do so with wood or stone or any of the conventional blocks they might think of first. Instead, they can use an earthen and natural design out of dirt blocks, moss, mud, and more. Moreover, the stairs don't even need to necessarily be shaped like ordinary stairs as long as they follow the same spiral pattern.
With a natural design like this, experimentation is key. By using the right earthy blocks and decorative ones like vines, flowers, and grass tufts, players have a lot of options available to them when it comes to a natural spiral staircase.
2) Diorite Pillared Staircase
A stark black-and-white color scheme can go a long way for any Minecraft build, and this staircase design helps support that idea. Diorite keeps a likable stone quality to it while fitting in nicely with other black/white/gray blocks like stone, quartz, and more. The right texture pack can give diorite an appearance very similar to marble, a material that wouldn't be found in the vanilla game.
Diorite won't always work, depending on the color scheme for a build. However, the fact that diorite can be shaped into blocks, walls, and slabs gives it a versatility that should serve it well for a spiral staircase, especially because the wall blocks can be used for columns.
3) Aquarium Staircase
There isn't much that a nice aquarium can't improve in Minecraft, and this staircase design is another great example. The construction of the spiral staircase itself is fairly basic and incorporates cherry and birch wood. However, it's the structure the staircase spirals around that really draws attention. This structure is a sizable aquarium complete with several blocks of colorful coral.
Obviously, this aquarium design is just a foundational one. Players are free to experiment with the aquarium before placing it between the steps of their staircase until they get the effect they're looking for.
4) Gold, Wooden Planks, Nether Bricks, Red Carpet
With plenty of gold, raw gold, red carpet, nether brick, quartz, and some ordinary wooden planks, fans can create a truly regal staircase fit for a king, lord, or a very wealthy individual. Raw gold runs the outline of the intertwisting outer staircase, while red carpets and nether brick line the steps, flanked by pillars of quartz all the while. Meanwhile, a central staircase is also wrapped around a slim quartz pillar.
The central staircase utilizes standard gold blocks for its outline and a collection of wooden planks as it climbs up the quartz column, creating a contrast with the other set of stairs while sticking to a quality color scheme.
5) Wood and Stone, Yin and Yang
Wood and stone is a natural pairing of resources in Minecraft even though they don't always mesh well from a scheme standpoint. Still, contrast can be just as powerful as similarity, which is something this temple-like spiral staircase does well. With its jagged railings, an assortment of different stone blocks, and wooden planks interspersed with unlit campfires, this design shows a little wear and tear.
However, this isn't a bad thing, as the ramshackle design would be perfect for a build that has seen better days, perhaps a set of ruins or a forgotten temple. The yin and yang at the base of the staircase made of dyed wool simply completes the build and gives it even more personality.
