There are two main ways to customize Minecraft's look and feel while playing the game. The older of these ways is through the use of texture packs. These are community-made bundles of textures that are rendered in place of the title's vanilla textures. The newer customization methods are shaders. These are rewrites of the game's light rendering engine to make things look both better and more realistic.

These methods, however, work best when paired together. Detailed below are 10 of the best texture packs to use in conjunction with shaders, along with what makes them such amazing choices.

10 of the best Minecraft texture packs to use alongside shaders

1) Roundista

Creator: Shivamzter

Roundista is an interesting texture pack. It blends the game's vanilla textures with a hyper-realistic aesthetic. This ends up making the game look incredibly realistic, but still like Mojang's blocky masterpiece. It's a very strange but cool effect that's made all the better by using one of Minecraft's best shaders, such as Complementary Unbound or Sildur's Vibrant Shaders.

2) Quadral

Creator: Ignaf

Quadral is a stylized medieval Minecraft texture pack. This is quite a unique blend of looks, being easy on the eyes while also giving you a grungy and medieval feeling. This would work fantastically well with any number of realistic shaders while still keeping the cartoonish nature of the game intact.

3) Dandelion

Creator: SteelFeathers and XeroTrinity

Dandelion is an incredibly charming texture pack, featuring softer pastel colors and textures that create a whimsical vibe. This less serious, fanciful aesthetic can be pushed even further by using colorful shaders, such as Pastel Shaders, rather than realistic ones. This makes Dandelion a great choice for players wanting a totally new look and feel for the game, especially when using a shader.

4) rotrBLOCKS

The rotrBLOCKS texture pack is another pack that blends hyper-realism with the game's vanilla aesthetics. However, its art direction is quite different from other similar packs mentioned thus far. rotrBLOCKS features much bolder, more distinct lines in its texture work, which ends up making many blocks pop much more.

This style is accentuated very nicely with shaders, which makes these lines even stronger.

5) Pixlli

Pixlli is another texture pack that blends the game's vanilla look with a hyper-realistic aesthetic. However, Pixlii doesn't care as much as Roundista does about maintaining the base game's look. It instead focuses on adding a ton of depth and texture to blocks. This extra depth looks even more impressive when using a shader.

6) Whimscape

Whimscape is an adorable texture pack. Colors are brighter, and lines within textures are softer. This makes the pack one of the cutest ones out there and is made even nicer to look at thanks to the soft lighting often featured in shaders. The new item sprites and Minecraft mob textures are also all charming, which makes it an even better resource pack to consider.

7) Jicklus

Creator: Jicklus

Jicklus is a strange texture pack. As it's quite stylized it's not vanilla enough to be a vanilla plus texture pack. However, it is still very similar to the base game's look. This is best exemplified in blocks like carved pumpkins, redstone Minecraft ore, and many of the logs. They look reminiscent of their vanilla blocks but are much more cartoon-like to help make them more visually appealing.

This stylish cartoon look pops even more when using a shader. Even somewhat monotonous activities, like wandering through the woods looking for Minecraft trail ruins, feel much more whimsical and exciting.

8) Default HD

Default HD is intended to take the game's vanilla textures and push them to the next level. It adds shading and detail, making things look more realistic while also remaining faithful to vanilla aesthetics. This texture pack would pair incredibly well with any of the vanilla plus Minecraft shaders available, such as Super Duper Vanilla Shaders, Vanilla Plus Shader, or Super Duper Vanilla Reimagined.

9) F8thful

Creator: EwanHowell5195

F8thful is an 8x8 texture pack that scales back the vanilla textures to make them more simplistic. This has a marginal effect on performance, increasing Minecraft's FPS, but it also results in the texture looking softer and less detailed. This ends up making the textures much cuter.

As with other texture packs mentioned, these delightful visuals are made all the better by using Pastel Shaders, or other similarly aesthetic shaders.

10) Bare Bones

Creator: RobotPantaloons

Bare Bones is quite a simplistic texture pack. It aims to make the game look much more like its trailers. It does this mostly by flattening large areas of color within textures. For example, the leaves on Minecraft trees are a flat green rather than many different shades. This makes the entire game much easier on the eyes, which pairs incredibly well with almost any kind of shader.
