10 of the best Minecraft builds to construct with friends

1) Steampunk city

The steampunk aesthetic is one that works incredibly well in Mojang's blocky masterpiece. The different copper blocks and items combine wonderfully with tuff, deepslate, and other similar materials to allow for truly amazing Minecraft steampunk builds. A large cityscape would be a perfect project to take on with a server, as it's much easier to collect the copper required with that many players.

2) Mega base

Minecraft mega bases are a classic and iconic part of the game. These large-scale survival hubs often span hundreds, if not thousands, of blocks and take many hours to complete. Teaming up with friends can dramatically reduce this build time, and sharing a base should mean that there are more than enough resources for the project.

3) Nether hub

A Nether hub is a vital part of any survival server. It is a central portal area that connects to each player's base and other important builds to allow for quick travel in between important areas of a server. Due to their importance, it is best to work on them as a group to make sure that everyone playing is satisfied with the look of the build.

4) Modern city

While not as visually interesting as a steampunk city, a modern city build would also be quite impressive. Much of modern architecture translates very well into Minecraft, thanks to the squared corners and boxy nature of many buildings. Each player could work on a different district of the city, which would lead to an interesting mixture of aesthetics and build styles.

5) Medieval castle

Medieval Minecraft castle builds are some of the largest and most impressive out there. This makes them perfect to take on with friends. Players can divide and conquer, each working on different areas of the build to make the normally intimidating scale of these structures much more manageable. Making design decisions with friends will also lead to a better final product.

6) Map art

Map art is one of the best large-scale building projects to take on with friends. It involves placing blocks on the ground so that when the area is viewed through a map, there's a picture. Converting an image into the right size and then placing the blocks is quite an involved process, which is what makes it perfect to take on as a group.

7) Shopping area

Any good Minecraft SMP server needs a shopping district where players can sell and trade items with others online. They also function as incredible collaborative building projects. Players can actively work together to create a themed area or each build in different and unique styles to turn the shopping area into a build showcase.

8) Graveyard

A graveyard would be a fantastic early-game build for a private Minecraft server. Players could manually expand the build and add graves as more people die while playing. Having a recorded history of deaths on the server would make for a fun thing to look back on, while seeing who dies the least would be an interesting competition.

9) TNT launchers

TNT launchers utilize a Minecraft duplication glitch to fling an unlimited number of explosives out. A great way to use these builds to kill time with friends is to have a PvP tournament where the only weapons allowed are TNT cannons. This is a great chance to get more familiar with these builds, and it also spices up regular PvP quite a bit.

10) Pixel art

Pixel art is similar to map art but is built vertically for in-person viewing rather than horizontally for map viewing. The two main kinds of pixel art are 2D pixel art, where an image is recreated pixel-by-pixel in-game, and 3D pixel art, where something like a Minecraft mob is rebuilt as a statue. Both kinds of pixel art make for great group projects and are sure to spice up any server.
