The latest Minecraft update to be released is the adorably and aptly named Armored Paws as it brought a few different armored paws. The first of which is the new wolf armor item, which can be put on tamed wolves to ensheathe their paws. The other aspect of this name is the cute new armadillo mob. These spunky critters can roll up into armored balls when they detect a threat.
Given how cute they are, players might wonder if they can be tamed, in the same way other mobs can, to follow players around. Unfortunately, they cannot be tamed, at least not in the traditional sense. However, they can be farmed, which is similar to taming.
Detailed below is exactly why this alternate method of "taming" armadillos is essential for survival bases post Armored Paws.

Minecraft armadillo farms are as close as players can get to taming them
Setting up an armadillo farm
As stated, armadillos can't be tamed in the same way that Minecraft's new wolf varieties, cats, parrots, or horses can, at least. However, they can be farmed, like many other passive Minecraft mobs like cows, chickens, and sheep. And they should be, as they are the sole source of armadillo scutes.
Setting up an armadillo farm is simple. Players will simply need to navigate to a nearby savanna or badlands biome. Minecraft's adorable armadillos can appear in pretty much all varieties of both, meaning it should only be a matter of time before a few get spotted. They spawn in groups of two to three in savannas and one to two in Minecraft's gorgeous badlands biomes.
From here, players can use a spider eye or a lead to bring a few armadillos into a pen. Spider-eyes are also used to breed them. Be careful when moving near armadillos, as sprinting or being on a mount will scare them and cause them to curl into a ball. Either walk instead of running or use leads, as armadillos won't curl up when on a leash.
Armadillos are important to farm
As mentioned, farming armadillos is important for getting their scutes. But what makes these scutes so important to get is that they are used to both craft and maintain Minecraft's new wolf armor.
Wolf armor is an equipable item that can be put on tamed wolves. It acts similarly to shields despite being armor, as it absorbs HP damage as durability damage until it breaks. Since armadillo scutes can be used on wolf armor that is still on wolves to repair it, having a surplus is recommended for extended adventuring sessions.
