Minecraft has loads of blocks that players can obtain and craft. In recent times, Mojang has released more new blocks to the game than ever before, while simultaneously updating the Overworld realm. Even though most of these new blocks are targeted for building purposes, players still gravitate towards the older and simpler blocks that were added to the game almost a decade ago, when the game was still young.

Here are some of the reasons why Minecraft players still prefer the classic blocks compared to new ones.

Reasons why classic blocks are still at the heart of many Minecraft builds

Classic Minecraft blocks are easier to find

When players first enter a new Minecraft world, they will most likely land in one of the common Overworld biomes like plains, forests, or spruce. As they progress through the game, they must dig deep and look for resources like coal, iron, and diamonds.

Upon mining for hours, players can accumulate lots of cobblestone blocks. Furthermore, they can chop down trees to get as much wood as possible. These are two of the most commonly obtainable building blocks that players generally use for building their base.

Even those who immediately start the world and work on a base use dirt to create a small hut, which is the oldest block in the entire game, created in 2009 when the sandbox was in development.

Along with their commonness, blocks like oak planks, stone bricks, and brick blocks have evergreen textures and colors, making them popular for building structures like castles and huts even to this day.

Minecraft celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024. Though the game continues to witness thousands of players online every day, it is safe to say they have been playing the game for quite some time now. They are either veterans who continue to play or are returning players who only know how the game worked in the past.

Upon entering a new world, many of these players tend to gravitate towards making a simple house like they did back in the day, with classic blocks like oak planks, cobblestone, stone bricks, and even regular brick blocks.

When going to different Minecraft social media communities on the internet, players continue to create simple houses with these classic blocks.
