Minecraft fans have been asking for a feature-length movie based on the game for years and finally, Mojang Studios responded with a movie announcement. Cut to a few years later and fans finally got the first official teaser trailer, but the excitement has now been transformed into dismay. Many things feel wrong in the A Minecraft Movie trailer, but one thing that particularly bugged the fanbase is the way Steve, played by Jack Black, looked.

Instead of the classic short hair and goatee beard that Steve from the game has, Black’s appearance looks more like a random person. The trailer shows Black with long hair and a bushy salt-and-pepper beard which does not even remotely resemble Steve. Apart from fans’ disappointment, players have started making fun of the situation.

A Minecraft player and Reddit user named PureComedyGenius shared an image on the subreddit of the game showing a skin that adds long hair and a beard on Steve. They posted the image with a caption that reads:

"Just updated my Steve skin to be more realistic."

Reacting to the post, user Braign said that they really like how the skin looks on Steve, even though they know it's for a joke. Another user named Observ3r001 said that the only thing missing now was the long-sleeved V-neck sweater, which was worn by Black in the Minecraft movie trailer.

User SummerSabertooth felt annoyed by how Jack Black said “I am Steve” resembling Lighting McQueen's “I am speed” quote from the Cars Movie. User NoGoodGodGames joked by making Black’s line even more annoying by adding the “Jack Black in a blue shirt” line.

Another user named Arunawayturtle loved how the skin looks, and gave an optimistic take saying that the Steve in the trailer could have been in the world so long that he has turned old. User ooferslll added to the comment, saying that this could be how the storyline might be leading, and the bushy look could be because he does not have access to shaving tools.

The Minecraft movie trailer is garnering more hate than love

As soon as the trailer dropped, fans did not wait to share their disappointment. The semi-realistic appearance of the mobs, how fake and lackluster the world looked, and most importantly, how Jack Black looked, were some of the many reasons that crushed their anticipation.

Since he is playing the character of the iconic character from the Minecraft universe, Steve, the minimum people hoped was that he looked accurate. Although theories suggest many solutions, as of now, the trailer is the only thing to go by; fair to say, that it has garnered more hate than love.
