Fan recreates Minecraft Dungeons combat style in game

Despite Minecraft being popular for more than 15 years, the game has some glaring flaws that are hard to ignore. For example, the combat in Minecraft has become stale and it is not difficult to notice how outdated the combat feels. While players are asking for an update that fixes this problem, there are only mods that can bring some change at the moment. And there are many mods out there that not only make the combat interesting, but completely different.

Minecraft player and Reddit user u/NotSeawhite shared a video on the subreddit of the game showing a mod they have been working on. The mod changes the combat style to a tabletop dungeon crawler style, just like that in Minecraft Dungeons. Apart from the POV and user interface change, one can also see the animations have been tweaked to make the combat look smoother and better.

The subreddit reacted to this mod in a positive way. u/Halgykae commented on how cool it was, while u/ArzyxMC said that this post deserves more recognition.

But with appreciation, there were a lot of questions about when the mod will be available and how exactly it works. u/MA9MA_ commented asking where they can try it. The original poster replied by saying that the mod is available on Planet Minecraft and it is called ‘Dungeons Combat.’

u/LeHoanfg tried the mod and mentioned that they could not break any blocks. The original poster clarified that players cannot break the blocks and the mod is not survival-friendly. While they did try to do something about it, they had to abandon it.

The original poster further mentioned that the mod is currently just to experience how this combat style feels like in the game and that’s it. Later, they might integrate it with a user-made pre-built map. u/klight101 asked if they plan to make a Dungeons adventure map with this mod. The original poster replied that they did not know how to build.

While the mod is only for basic combat, it would be interesting if users could make custom maps for such combat styles and develop their own Dungeons game.

If someone could make a mod that allows the breaking and placing of blocks (along with other game mechanics such as brewing), combining all of that would make a dungeon-crawler game that would be better than the original Minecraft Dungeons. The great thing about this mod is that it works with the Game's Bedrock Edition as well.

Mojang Studios recently announced ‘addons’ for the Bedrock Edition of the game that works very much like mods for the Java Edition. Users can go to the official Minecraft Marketplace and click on different add-ons to choose from. These add-ons are made by independent users and can completely change how the game looks and plays. Perhaps with time, we might see more and more of these addons added to the Marketplace that also introduces different gameplay styles.
