Has the mace powercrept other weapons in Minecraft?

One of the best features in Minecraft's 1.21 update is the mace weapon. The mace has a few interesting mechanics, such as being able to convert fall damage into bonus attack damage, a powerful AOE knockback effect, and unique enchantments that turn it into the deadliest and most useful weapon available to players by far.

It also goes to show just how lacking the rest of the game's weapons are, as they are considerably worse in comparison. Everything that players need to know about exactly how the mace has powercrept the rest of the title's weapons can be found detailed below.

Minecraft's new mace deals insane damage

The biggest reason that the mace has powercrept the rest of Minecraft's weapons is the amount of damage it's able to deal. The weapon is able to convert distance fallen into bonus damage without any sort of cap. This means that, assuming a player can fall from far enough, it's possible to kill any mob with health, including bosses.

Additionally, any mobs near the original target will be blasted back, as if they themselves were struck. This makes it easy to dive into large hordes of enemies, as the first attack will clear out a space to land.

Mace enchantments

The mace's enchantments, as previously mentioned, are another major reason for the weapon being as good as it is. There are three unique mace enchantments: Breach, Density, and Wind Burst.

Breach is the least useful enchantment for solo survivalists, but incredibly useful for Minecraft PvP players. It reduces the effect of a target's armor on damage by 15% per level, capping out at level IV.

Density is similar to Breach in that it aims to make the weapon deadlier. However, rather than reducing armor, the enchantment increases the damage gained from falls. This increase is equal to a quarter heart per block fallen per level. Since Density goes up to level V, this means that players can get 1.25 extra hearts of damage per block fallen.

The final Minecraft mace enchantment is also the most unique and fun. Wind Burst allows players to spring back up into the air after landing a smash attack. This makes it possible to chain attacks together for as long as there are entities to strike, effectively creating an entirely new style of combat. Creative players have also started using the feature on parkour maps.

In conclusion, it's easy to see why the mace has changed combat in Minecraft. The only weapon able to come close to it is the trident, which can be thrown for considerable damage and enchanted to summon lightning in storms. However, even an item as powerful as the trident is weak in comparison to the mace, with its insane damage and almost unmatched weapon utility.
