Before announcing this year's Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios released a blog post saying that they will be removing the mob vote competition from future events. The mob vote was a small competition between the three mobs that the developers created. All three of them were presented to the playerbase who were asked to vote for one creature. The mob with the most votes was eventually added in the subsequent update.

Due to many criticisms received from the community regarding the mob vote, the developers decided to scrap the mob vote competition. However, it could have an impact on the community itself.

Repercussions of Mojang scrapping Minecraft mob vote

The community will not have a hand in the upcoming update

When Mojang Studios first introduced mob vote competition, the entire community was super excited to participate in it and cast their vote. The main reason was that the mob vote allowed the player base to play a major part in the next update's development by choosing which mob should be added. This made them feel part of the game's journey.

With the mob vote competition being removed, players might feel a sense of satisfaction, but while still missing the days when the community had a hand in choosing which features were added in future updates.

Of course, they will continue to send lots of feedback by playing snapshots and testing new features before they are officially released. However, some could miss the time when the community was majorly involved in the update through the mob vote.

The community had a joint event where many participated in mob vote

Minecraft has a bustling community where many events with several participants take place. There are frequent Minecraft Championship tournaments that many fans tune into as well as the Mojang Studios annual live event itself. However, the mob vote stood out as one of the very few events where most of the player base came together and participated.

One of the main reasons behind this was that the mob vote was officially hosted by Mojang Studios and was highly promoted. Hence, the majority of players cast their votes and discussed all three mobs on social media platforms.

Now, however, the developers do not have any major event where the entire community can come together and socialize about the game they love. Although there was discord in the community because of the mob vote itself, there were also positive discussions that took place because of it.
