Minecraft 1.21's largest, and most dangerous, feature is the trial chamber. These structures are flush with some of the best loot in the entire game. This includes heavy cores, ominous bottles, tridents, enchanted books, and blocks of emerald and diamond. Knowing how these structures spawn is one of the best ways to find them quickly and efficiently.

Detailed below is everything players need to know about trial chamber creation. This includes general information, such as where and how they are generated in the world, as well as other related information.

An important fact about trial chambers is that they can only generate in new chunks. This means the easiest way to find a trial chamber is to start a new world, as they'll be able to generate in any chunk. On pre-existing worlds, players might need to travel hundreds or thousands of blocks to reach fresh terrain.

When it comes to trial chambers, every world is divided into 32 by 32 chunk areas in a grid fashion. Each of these regions is guaranteed to contain a trial chamber within it. This means there's a trial chamber for every 1024 chunks. Consequently, any Minecraft seed is guaranteed to have a trial chamber relatively close to spawn, similar to how a stronghold is guaranteed to be near spawn.

These structures are generated from a central entrance. The rooms can spawn exclusively within the Y-level range of -20 to -40, though the structure can extend well beyond this range. In fact, many trial chambers generate up to roughly Y = 0, though they can also extend lower than Y = -40 for the same reason.

Needing to search Y levels -40 to -20 for up to over a thousand chunks makes trial chambers sound nearly impossible to find. And indeed, if players had to dig around randomly, they would be awful to track down. Thankfully, Mojang accounted for this and added a guaranteed way to locate the nearest trial chamber.

Minecraft cartographer villagers have a trade for a trial chamber map now. This trade unlocks at the journeyman level and costs players 12 emeralds and a compass. It will be a map to the trial chamber that's nearest to the cartographer, meaning players can travel to different villages to find new trial chambers easily.

Trial chambers have a few other unique aspects, reflected in how they can generate. There are four different murals that can spawn in atriums. Three of these are Minecraft mob faces, including spiders, breeze, and bogged. The fourth design is a spiral, resembling a gust of air.

Trial chambers can also generate traps for players to stumble into. Corridors have dangerous tripwire traps connected to arrow-filled dispensers, while larger chambers have Minecraft potion-, arrow-, and fire charge-filled dispensers. There are also TNT traps that players can activate, making these structures even deadlier.

The final interesting piece of trial chamber generation information relates to Minecraft trial spawners. Each mob found in trial chambers has uniquely designed trial spawners. This means players can quickly identify spawners, even if the mob puppet spinning within them is blocked off or otherwise hard to see.
