Minecraft preview 1.21.30.21 for Bedrock Edition debuted on August 1, 2024. It makes pretty intriguing changes to the game in addition to bug fixes. The item rarity system has received some adjustments, Bad Omen can be reset by drinking an ominous bottle of any level, and illager banners have been renamed ominous banners to bring parity in line with Java Edition.
Currently, Minecraft previews are available for Xbox One and Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows 10/11 PCs, and Android/iOS mobile devices. However, if you're hoping to access the latest preview, it doesn't hurt to examine how the process plays out since downloading and installing it can be different depending on the platform.

PlayStation 4 and 5
Minecraft previews only recently made their way to the PlayStation 4 and 5, but the process of downloading them on these consoles is slightly different compared to other platforms. Instead of finding the preview on a storefront, you can download it directly from the PS4 version of the game with these steps:
- Run the PlayStation 4 version of the base game on either your PS4 or PS5 console (via backward compatibility).
- Open the settings from the main menu.
- Select Preview at the bottom of the sidebar on the left of the window.
- Click either "Get PlayStation 4 Preview" or "Get PlayStation 5 Preview" depending on your console.
- Select Download.
Windows 10/11 PCs
The process of downloading 1.21.30.21 on Windows PCs is different depending on whether or not you currently have a preview installed. If you do, you can update it via the Microsoft Store application on your PC. However, if you're downloading a preview for the first time, you can use the Minecraft Launcher.
Both methods are detailed below for convenience:
- If you haven't downloaded a preview before, run your Minecraft Launcher client and select the Windows edition on the game list to the left of the window. Click on the button that reads "Latest Release" and select "Latest Preview," Then, tap the green Install button.
- If you've already installed a preview, open the Microsoft Store app on your PC and navigate to your library. Click on the Games button, find the listing for the preview, and press the update button. Alternatively, you can click the "Get Updates" button to update all of the available apps at once.
Android/iOS mobile devices
When you're downloading previews on Android or iOS mobile devices, things will be handled via the operating system's respective app store. This includes Android's Google Play Store and Apple's TestFlight program. Both options have slightly different approaches to opting into their respective beta programs. Both methods are detailed in the steps below:
- On Android, open the Google Play Store and then the store page for Minecraft. Scroll down to find a section titled "Join the Beta" and tap the accompanying text link. This will replace your existing game app with one that includes the preview. You can also use this method to opt out of the beta program in the future if you so choose.
- On iOS, download the TestFlight app and then head to the TestFlight signup page for the preview. Sign up for the preview using your Apple account credentials and you should receive an email providing you the next steps to take. Open the email and choose to "View in TestFlight" and tap the Accept button if you're a new tester. Then, tap Install to add the preview to your device.
That's all there is to it! Keep in mind that previews will automatically update once installed, but you may still need to use the Microsoft Store app in the case of the game's Windows 10/11 version.
