Xbox One and Series X|S
Downloading Minecraft previews on Xbox consoles (and all compatible consoles for that matter) is a streamlined process thanks to the digital storefront. As long as you've purchased the base game on your account or you have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, you can access preview 1.21.30.22 with these steps:
- From your dashboard, head to either the Microsoft Store or enter the Game Pass Library.
- In the search field, enter "Minecraft Preview" and press enter. Then, open the resulting store page.
- Select the Install button. As long as you've purchased the base game or have a Game Pass subscription, you should be able to do so freely.
PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles
Since Minecraft previews are relatively new to PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, they have a slightly different approach to being played. First off, they must be accessed from within the base game, and the PlayStation 5 preview must be used by running the backward-compatible PlayStation 4 version. Whatever the case, the process is simple and can be accomplished with these steps:
- On either your PS4 or PS5 console, run the PlayStation 4 version of Bedrock on your console.
- Open your settings on the main menu.
- At the bottom of the sidebar to the left of the settings menu, select "Preview".
- Based on your console, choose either "Get PlayStation 4 Preview" or "Get PlayStation 5 Preview".
- Select Download, and the preview should be introduced to your download queue.
Windows 10/11 PCs
When it comes to downloading previews on Windows 10 and up on PC, the methodology is different depending on whether or not you have a previous preview installed on your PC. If you do, you can update it via the Microsoft Store application. However, if you don't, you can directly open the Minecraft Launcher client and download preview 1.21.30.22 directly.
Both of the methods are outlined below:
- If you have a preview installed already, open your Microsoft Store app, head to your library, and press the Games button. You should find a listing for your installed preview with an Update button next to it if one is available. Simply press the button and allow the store app to complete the update. Your preview should now be updated to Preview 1.21.30.22 or above.
- If you haven't downloaded a preview before, open your Minecraft Launcher and select the Windows Edition of the game on the list of games to the left of the window. Click on the button under the splash art that reads "Latest Release" and select "Latest Preview" instead. Then, hit the green Install button.
Android/iOS mobile devices
If you're enjoying Minecraft on an Android/iOS mobile device (often still referred to as Pocket Edition), you'll have a different pathway to accessing previews based on your operating system. On Android, you can look to the Google Play Store, while on iOS, you'll need to use the Apple TestFlight Program. Both of the options and their steps can be found below:
- On Android, go to the Google Play Store app and open the store page for the game. Scroll to the bottom of the store page until you find a section labeled "Join the Beta" and tap the accompanying text link. This will replace your base game app with the preview, so you can quickly open it and enjoy the game.
- On iOS, begin by downloading the TestFlight app from the App Store if you haven't already. Then, head to the Apple TestFlight page for the preview and sign up using your Apple account credentials. You should receive an email afterward inviting you to test the game. Open the email and select "View in TestFlight" and then tap "Accept" if you're a new tester. Otherwise, you can tap "Update" or "Open" to access the preview as a returning tester.
That's all there is to it! It should be noted that most previews will update automatically once they're installed. However, you may still need to use the Microsoft Store to update them for Windows 10/11 version manually.
