Minecraft has all kinds of flora and fauna in the Overworld realm and you can get various kinds of trees and flowers to grow. One of the flowers present in the game is a blue orchid. It is light blue with several small flowers branching out. Once obtained, you can also use it in several ways. You can get the color out of it and even make a unique food item.

Here is a short guide to finding blue orchids in Minecraft and how to use it.

Steps to get blue orchids and use them in Minecraft

1) Find a Swamp and look for light blue orchids

The best way to get a blue orchid is to travel around the Overworld realm and look for a swamp in Minecraft. This is a special biome that will be full of trees with hanging vines and shallow ponds of water with lily pads. You will be able to spot the biome with its olive-green leaves and grass blocks.

Since the overall color palette of a swamp will be olive green and brown, a group of blue orchids will be relatively easy to spot. These flowers usually generate in a group or as a single bloom.

2) Grab them by breaking them normally

While other blocks might need special tools to break and obtain valuable items, flowers are simple vegetation blocks that can be obtained by left-clicking them. The blue orchids will simply fall to the ground and will be automatically picked up by you.

Obtain blue orchids by other methods

Apart from traditionally finding blue orchids in swamp biomes, you can also obtain them by trading with wandering traders. You can also find them in woodland mansions.

Wandering traders are mobs that have separate trading lists. Each mob will have a different trading list, in which one item could be a blue orchid. These traders can sell one blue orchid for a single emerald. Since emeralds are already a rare commodity, players usually do not spend it on flowers from wandering traders.

Lastly, blue orchids may also be present in woodland mansions as a decorative plant. They will be planted inside a flower pot.

Uses of a blue orchid flower

Once a blue orchid is obtained, you can use it in three ways: as decoration, to extract light blue dye, or to create a suspicious stew.

The flower can either be placed on a grass block or a flower pot as a decoration piece.

It can also be placed inside one crafting slot to extract light blue dye. This dye can then be used to color several other items, blocks, and mobs.

Lastly, a red mushroom, a brown mushroom, bowl, and a blue orchid can be combined in crafting slots to create a suspicious stew. Though the food item's effect is not written when it is crafted, it has been found that a suspicious stew made with blue orchids always gives you a saturation effect for 0.35 seconds in the Java Edition or 0.3 seconds in the Bedrock Edition.
